Ok, so I know that you need to get kitties spayed/neutered as soon as poss (which all mine are) and I heard that its usually best to do this before they reach 6 months old.....so I wondered: if male cats can be sexually active at 6 months old - can female cats? Will they start calling this young or do they take longer to mature sexually?
I just wondered cos I have a 7 month old Birman and she still looks sooo much like a kitten I'd never let her get pregnant at this age!!

I should probably know the answer to this, but I don't...and I was just curious as to when females can actually get pregnant? (I know its when they start calling but I mean what age?)

Thanks all you clever people out there!!

Hi bodlover,

All cats, male or female may become sexually active around 6 months of age generally. But this may differ for every cat. Some cats don't reach sexual maturance until they are a few months older (sometimes until 1 year of age)..

Getting spayed/neutered a cat before she/he goes into first heat is better since they won't have produced the sexual hormones yet.
