I brought this subject up on another message board I go to, and was curious as to the phobias of my fellow Cat Site friends. My phobias are....

1. Needles. I absolutely HATE getting shots. I have actually avoided a lot of things just because I won't get the required injections in order to do them. And it has nothing to do with pain...in fact, I'd rather be in pain than get a shot. The only time I was ok with it was a couple of months ago when I had four teeth pulled and then replaced. I went to a new dentist who first gave me so much nitrious I thought that everything he said was funny, then whiped this minty stuff in my mouth that numbed me so much my eyes watered, then gave me a total of 5 shots...but by then I was so loopy I didn't care. I am supposed to go to Thailand in a year to do a few weeks of volunteer work, but if I have to get any immunizations before I go then I won't be able to go.

2. The Dark. I know that seems childish, but you didn't grow up in my house.

3. Being buried alive. I have asthma and a heart murmur, so breathing can sometimes be a chore. I am always afraid that I'll get trapped somewhere and there won't be any air.

4. Fire/being burned alive. I won't even light matches or lighters. Can you imagine the pain of someone who died in a house fire???

Also, this isn't really a phobia, since if I had to do it I could, but ever since Aaliyah died (Im a HUGE fan) and then Sept 11 happend less then a month later I have not been able to fly. The main reason is because no one really knows what caused Aaliyah's plane to crash. It is the unknown thing that bothers me. I'll have to fly when I go to Thailand though. I just wish we really knew what happend to her.

I am deathly afraid of snakes - can't even be in the same room, even if it is safely behind glass.

Some heights petrify me: Ferris wheels, roller coasters, cantilevered decks. I'm OK on top of mountains and at the edge of the Grand Canyon, as long as there is firm ground under me. It took two migraine pills and two muscle relaxants, to get me stoned enough, to board an airplane, six years ago.

1.Frogs... Don't know why I'm so scared of these animals. I know they are good at keeping the insect population down so I don't wish anything bad happening to them.
2. Claustrophobia...There was a time I got locked in this small bathroom (the doorknob fell off) and nobody heard me cry for help. I wasn't in there for long but the experience did something to me.

Almost as bad as me.......I can't even speak of one without getting freaked out........just the sound they make alone causes me to cry. not as bad as it was when I was little and would curl up in a ball cause of it. but still bad enough that my nightmares always contain them.

1) earthworms. I don't know why they frighten me. I grew up across from a small park which we would walk along to go to grade school, and when it rained, they would come out. Snakes don't bother me in the least oddly! Worms bother me to this day.

2)I get very nervous when someone is walking behind me with a handtruck, the narrow kind which usually a delivery man would use to deliver a stack of boxes that has kind of a sharp front edge. You have a lot of these types of deliveries in NYC and I have to get a grip on myself to not run across the street to get away from the cart. I've never had anyone run into me with one.

I worry about fire, in terms of not leaving lights on etc especially with the cats (and I have a few halogen lamps). If I go away from any period of time, I unplug everything, but that's more of a caution than a phobia

I am very afraid of roller coasters, but I would not call it a phobia. The sensation of going down fast sets my heart racing so hard that I feel like I'm having an attack and it takes a long time for my pulse to come down. But heights dont scare me, or other types of amusement rides.I'd been on the WTC observation deck a few dozen times over the years.

katl8e, this is for you..sorry: I couldn't resist heehee. It is the famous Wonder Wheel at NY's Coney Island, which I probably would not want to sit on the top of unmoving for an extended period of time either!

True phobia and not just a fear?
Claustrophobia. I have a hard time with that one sometimes. Also a bit of social anxiety, although it is improving

Being buried alive goes with the claustrophobia since the idea of being in a cramped box and under ground terrifies me!

I am deathly afraid of spiders. Even small ones. When I see one I get goose bumps immediately. Being in Florida, we get alot of big ugly ones. Alot of banana spiders also. I refuse to kill them if they are anywhere above my head. (like way up on the wall or ceiling)I am afraid when I try to kill it, it will fall on me. I make my boyfriend kill them, even if he is sleeping I will wake him up to do it. Once he wasn't home and there was a BIG, HUGE spider up on top of a door. I kept an eye on that spider for an hour to make sure I knew where he was when my boyfriend got home so he could kill it!

Ok. Here goes.

1. Cockroaches. Not the little tiny ones, but the big, huge, palmetto bugs that we get in Florida. (I think those are called waterbugs up north). This is a real phobia. I will seriously run screaming from a room. Plus, to make it worse, palmetto bugs FLY!

2. Fire. I don't know if it's a phobia, since I love candles and stuff but I'm terribly afraid of getting burned.

3. Knives. Again, not a phobia since I use them, but the sight of a big knife will send shivers down my spine.

My mother has always been very self-suficient and I grew up watching her. There is NOTHING that woman can't do and nothing she is afraid of. If I'm really lucky, I'll 'grow up' to be just like her! I hope I'm on the right track, since I can't think of any fears of phobias I have at this point... I'll pretty much dive into anything head first.

...Well except maybe "commitment-phobia!"
(Relationships: the ONLY department I don't want to be like my mom in.) My father is currently on his 4th wife and my mom is on her third husband. Both FINALLY seem happy and I think they will stay put this time, but since I haven't exactly had good role models for relationships, I'm not real eager to commit myself to marriage (or kids!).

I'm not actually phobic about anything, I'm really not even scared of anything. BUT like Lucia - I HATE earthworms!! They are about the most vile, disgusting little creatures I can think of. They are slimey, wriggly, and they stink. I have been known to run on tip toes in the rain to avoid stepping on them. YUK!!!!

But, I don't have a problem with snakes. I like snakes, actually. I think they're cute.

I am very scared of fish, especially in the ocean, but anywhere really.
I can't stand any insects, or really any bug.
I am also afraid of birds.
I am scared of drowning, being buried alive, burning.
I also can't be in a room with lots of people, and I don't like it when people get to close to me.

I'm terrified of elevators. I cannot ride in one alone. I hyperventilate at the thought of getting in one.

I'm get phobic when I'm out in the country as well, or in open spaces where there aren't houses around.

I'm also terrified of bee's and wasps.

Spiders and crickets.

The spiders I suck up with the vacuum cleaner..I have about a 5 foot attachment that goes on the hose that way I don't have to get close to them. Then the vacuum sits outside until I can get someone to empty it for me. Makes no difference on the size, shape or color..if it has 8 legs (or close to 8 legs, I'm outta there). I wrecked my car because a spider ran across the dashboard.

It's bad luck to kill crickets in the house so I hear...I just avoid them and do a little woogie dance. Or bribe one of my kids to capture it and throw it back outside.

I don't have "phobias"...just "fears"...like fear of failure. Guess that's why I'm such a type A.

Living in the land of not enough time
Mice. Between loosing Shalimar and finding my 2 boys, my neighbor tore down his shed, and the mice went straight to my house. I was even finding them in my stove. The colony outside at the time was only 2 cats so even they didn't stand a chance in Hades at controlling them.

Being in something I can't get out of...some call it claustrophobia. But I have no problem with small rooms or elevators. But put me into a tight shirt, or even being unable to get a necklace unhooked will send me into a panic.

I have a fear of climbing DOWN a ladder. I can climb up with no problem. Then I'm stuck unless someone is behind me. Got me into several funny situations.

Hmmmm, not as many as I thought. I can live with this.

Snakes terrify me.

I don't like some buildings and won't go in them - is this weird?

I should mention here to anyone who doesn't know that Palmetto bugs don't bite. They are just BIG.

I take precations so rodents and insects don't take up residence in my home. If they do, I simply take them outside.
