Lofdi (the Kamikaze Commando Kitten) took a tumble off of the cat tree tonight and when I went to pick him up later he yowled and scrambled off. When I got him again he had a big lump in his chest so I called the e-vet right away. The x-rays showed that not only did he have a fractured rib (just one, fortunately) but that he had a fractured (or whatever you call it) sternum, which was what was jutting out. He is in no danger and safe, but he is going to spend the night there and the surgeon will look at him tommorow. The ordinary vet says normally they would leave a broken sternum piece in place but this one is jutting out soo badly that she says the surgeon may want it removed. I am so relieved my kitten is safe, but I hope they can do something for his sternum, it is stuck out really bad and must hurt a lot.

He's home now and acts no worse for the wear unless you try to pick him up. The surgeon wants to leave the broken sternum piece sticking out as long as it doesn't cause any other problems. The vet gave me pain pills (which he certainly doesn't seem to need) and told prescribed rest for four to six weeks. Lofdi must not listen very well since he certainly hasn't done much resting since he got back home. He still climbs on everything regardless of what I do, at least he is refraining from racing up and down everything like a stunt cat (or a Kamikaze Commando Kitten), which is what got him into trouble in the first place.

Well I hope your kitty listens eventually. Have you been able to give him any pain pills? Did the doc say how long he should be in pain for?

I remember when my mom and I were wrestling and I bruised my sternum. I couldn't do sit-ups or anything even related to that for a week. I hope your kitty feels better real soon.
