I was too exicted about trapping the kittens, I didn't even tell you their story. It started off at a coffee shop 3 blocks down from my house. The ladies at the coffee shop and a friend of mine saw three little kittens and a mother cat wandering around the bushes. The mother had made a den right beside a busy road and a noisy coffee shop, that seemed a little strange to me. I say they were dumped their when the cats owner realized she was preggo. Momma will come right up to the coffee shop doors and will sit 2 feet away from people. She was coming out in the day and night, strange for a feral. The very same night, I gathered the trap, a towel, some bait and newspaper. I set the trap opening in the bushes, right where they were coming out.
I went and sat down in my friends truck and we waited patiently for the trap the close. Within a half an hour, a black and white kitten was trapped. I took the trap and looked over the kitten. He has green eyes and is eating solids, which indicates that he is weened and probably about 8 weeks old. Once I put the kitten into a carrier, momma cat and two kittens started wandering up the street. I called the kittens and they ran back into the bush, momma kinda just waited up the street for her babies.
I baited the trap once more, hoping that the other two kittens would be trapped. It only took one hour and I heard the trap go off! I went to investigate and saw two kittens inside it. I checked them over and put them in the carrier with the other kitten. Momma cat ate the remains of the wet food that was left on some newspaper. I got a good look and her and saw just how tiny she is. She looks like she is about 6 months old by her size, but I've had adult female who were smaller.
Once again, I baited the trap. I waited for a good 2 hours for momma to go in, but she was very smart. She walked right along side the trap, but she wouldn't go in! I decided to pack it up for the night and head home. Once I got home, I tried to pick up the kittens. They hissed for a second and huddled together in the corner of the carrier. The little brown kitten let me pick her up, and the black and white one too. The grey kitten was hissing and swatting at me while I grabbed her siblings. I checked their sexes and there is two girls and one boy.
I set the kittens back in the carrier and got out my kitchen scale. They all weigh 2 pounds and they are nice and chubby. I gave them some kitten food and water, then I went to sleep. The kittens were much better in the morning, I fed and watered them.
That night, I tried to trap the mother with no success.
Here are some pictures of the kittens!
