Cruz is my 14yr old flame pt. Himilayan. About 4 days ago I noticed that he wasn't acting like his normal self. He isnt interested in his food and is very lethargic. He is walking with a real swagger and has difficulting moving his hind legs. He is still drinking water. His face looks a little puffy. He hasn't been meowing and keeps trying to climb into the bath tub. Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?? He is just a shell of his former self. I don't want to subject him to rigorous testing if there is nothing that will help him. His quality of life has greatly declined these last few days and I would rather him be at peace then to prolong any suffering for the sake of my feelings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cruz...have you at least taken your cat to be evaluated by a vet. A vet can at least tell you if further testing is required...but all you have to pay is the office visit.

A cat with swelling of unknown origin ("puffy face")should see the vet, and if his quality of life has diminished in such a short space of time, then the matter is urgent.
Many people are unaware that cats "mask" pain very well, perhaps acting just a bit more sleepy or off food.If the signs are now very obvious then he may be in extreme distress.

14 is not particularly ancient........one of mine lived to the age of 23.....so it is possible he has a treatable condition which could give you more years together.
Please get him checked out as soon as you can.

I agree, you should take your cat to the vet right away. I only recognise two symptoms, the lethargy can mean anything, for example thats when we knew something was wrong with Mia, she had pan-leuk. The climbing into the bathtub is what Mittens did when he had crystals in his urine, it was very painful so he would go to the bathroom in the bathtub. But these symptoms can mean anything, a vet would know best.

Thank you to those of you who gave advice. I took Cruz to the emergency vets tonite and I am sadden to say that his prognosis was very poor. We had to make the painful decision to have him put to sleep. It broke my heart but I know his quality of life was extremely poor. I had 14 great years with him and he will always be with me.

Cuz, I am so sorry to hear that. You made the right decision in taking your cat to the vet. I hope you consider adopting another little sweetie someday.

Take care...

I am sorry you lost Cruz. You did the right thing in taking the cat to the vet. I will move this thread to Crossing the Bridge so others can pay their respects to you.

Cruz, I am so sorry for your loss. You did the right thing by not prolonging any suffering. Your baby is in God's loving arms now at the Rainbow Bridge.
