Some of you have asked for a new photo of Samwise, after he joined the rest of us at the beach. Here he is, hard at work at the beach.

Best,

Oh, yes, holding tables down is extremely important work! I'm glad you have a cat who is willing to take on this responsibility.
He certainly is a handsome fellow!

Samwise is a Turkish Van cat. A charming, talented and lovable breed. Learn more about the Turkish Van here.

kitkatz,

I forgot to mention. There is another TCS thread where we bragged about Samwise here. It will give you some background on our new little charmer.

All the best,

Ann

What a beautiful cat- I'd heard of this breed- but haven't noticed any at the shows I've visited here in Sydney.
Having 2 cats that 'tolerate' baths- a fluffy water loving cat sounds great.
Thanks for sharing
Cheers

He's beautiful! I wonder why he had to compete against Persians and not Turkish Angoras? The latter are much closer to Vans in appearance.

Hi, jcat,

This appears to be because Turkish Angoras are also relatively rare, at least in this part of the world. We only recall seeing one at a show attended by Samwise. It also competed in the Persian class. Samwise, similarly, was often the only Turkish Van present.

On the other hand, Persians are always well-represented -- often the largest class at a show. This does make the competition more exciting, even though poor Samwise had to work so hard to earn his ribbons. Persians are not only popular with owners, but they are also popular with many judges. When he did not do very well at one show Samwise was heard to exclaim (in Turkish, of course), "Sorry, Mom. I was Persianed."

And then, at the very next show, he came home with the "Best Champion" ribbon!

We are very proud of Samwise that he was able to compete successfully against such tough and experienced competition. He has earned a little rest on the coffee table.

Cheers,

Ann
