Hello all have a couple of questions:....I have to go out of town for a week and I don't know whether to take my babies to a shelter for a week...or take them with me on a 6 hour drive. Once before I took both of them for a two hour ride and my oldest cat hated it!!!, my other cat was fine. What should I do???......
When I went out of town the last time they both didn't like being in a new enviroment and was always hiding in a corner some where, I want them to feel safe where we are going to be should I take them on this trip and if so how do I get them to feel ok??????

Please help....New Mommy!!

Oh, don't feel bad! It's good that you want the best for your cats.

How about having a friend catsit for you or hire a petsitter so that way the cats can stay home?? That's another option you might want to explore?

I have friends catsit for me all the time and it worked out GREAT even when I had to be away for about 2 weeks..
hang in there!

I would always opt to leave them in familiar surroundings. Here is an article about pet sitters that might help you.

Heavens, No! They may possibly give you a little frost when you first get home, just to discipline you for leaving them. Cats are like that. Ours do it all the time! But they'll get over it soon, and just be glad to see Mum. Meanwhile, they'll have at least had their own familiar surroundings while you've been away.

No, they certainly won't forget you in such a short period of time. I've been away for a few weeks at a time, leaving JC in my husband's care, and he's always thrilled to have me back. I visit my family in the U.S. just about every year, and all the pets remember me from one trip to the next, even if it has been two years between visits.

I agree, get a pet sitter to come and stay in the house preferably or at least to visit a few times a day. The kitties won't forget you at all, but they will most certainly punish you for your absence! I was gone for six months during desert storm and all of my babies still remembered me, there was even a new addition to the family "Cindy" who welcomed me with open arms.
