I just bid on and won a BABY SCALE on an online auction. Now what would a woman in her 60s be needing a baby scale for? To weigh her two overweight cats, of course!

Both of my furbabies are 14 pounds. Purdy should be about 10 pounds; Red Cat 10-11. Red Cat had been about 15 pounds, so he has lost almost a pound since I put him on a diet a month or six weeks ago. But Purdy hadn't been weighed since his physical a year ago, and that rascal has gained 2½ pounds in the last year! I just reached the conclusion that I was going to have to keep better track of their weight, and a trip to the vet is just too traumatic for them to go there just to be weighed every couple of weeks. So I added one more piece of expensive equipment for them. (They are worth it, of course!)

That's a good idea. We usually just use the "weigh yourself without cat, weigh yourself with cat, subtract" method, but a baby scale would probably be more accurate.

I used to try using the bathroom scale with and without holding the cat, too. If it were a newer digital scale, I imagine it might be more accurate, but I have an old mechanical one where is often difficult to tell weight any closer than a couple of pounds. And a couple of pounds on a cat is a lot! So this is much more likely to keep me motivated. Too bad it won't do anything for the cats' motivation to lose weight! Oh, do I ever hear the pleading for more food, even though I'm cutting them down only about 16% from what they had been eating!

Oh, yeah! They'll be on your case, for sure. Be strong, Mum, don't let their guilt trips get to you!
