Oh, that article about that practice....as a Korean, I'm saddened to know that people from my country would even think of doing that. I am glad that Taegu, South Korea (where I was born) has set up that program to prevent that from happening. I'd like to think that if I was living there now, I'd be an active person working to prevent that from happening.
Poor kittens...

This is sickening.
Poor kitties.
I am sure each and every one of them is in a special place right now for having suffered so horribely.
I am sure the people who do this to cats and to dogs have a special place waiting for them as well.

That's horrible but it's nothing new. It happens in China as well and not just to dogs and cats. I don't like the fact that dogs and cats are used as food, but I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't for the appalling conditions in which they are raised and killed
I think other nations should sanction countries that allow for such brutal animal abuse to take place.

I completely agree.

Why do they do this? I can't fault them for finding cats and dogs a delicacy - I mean we eat cows and pigs in this country and those animals are really cute too, IMO - but do they have to torture the s*** out of the animals first!? I read on that Korean animals website that they like to beat the dogs to death instead of killing them humanely because "it gets their adrenaline flowing and that makes the meat taste better"! They consider beating the dog's body while still alive the equivalent of us using a tenderizer on a cut of steak or something! How can they be so backwards and uncivilized?

I have just read this thread for the first time. I'm sorry but I cannot go on to read the site you have posted. The photos of them waiting for their horrible fate, and reading the thread is enough to imagine the most awful of deaths and I can't read the site. But I would like to be able to do something to help stop it, but what and how I don't know. This is unbearable. Those poor, poor darlings, and they have never done anyone any harm. The human race has a lot to learn from animals. I hope they are safe at the rainbow bridge now, but who is going to be there to meet them, (I mean humanwise) I hope they are adopted by us if they have never been owned. And there are still so many more that are going to suffer, surely there is something we can do no matter how little, do we save up and go and rescue some?
Surely a charity could be set up. There is a charity that goes to other countries and buys donkeys and horses to save them from similar fates and bring them home to horse sanctuary.

I live in Asia and I can't understand how these horrible things happen. The Philippines is no exception. I have seen animal cruelty and it is more than I can bear. I have tried my way to stop it and end up having :censor::censor::censor::censor: thrown at me and my car and home vandalized. I could tell you a lot of stories but it would take more than a simple reply to a post. And personally, I try to forget to keep myself sane.
Things here are getting better though. I believe the cause is ignorance and apathy. Animal groups like the local PAWS work hard to educate. Laws are passed and enforced to reduce these crimes against animals. Even foreign programs like "Animal Planet" help a lot.
I just hope other countries like Korea take the same positive steps we are taking here, not only for the sake of the innocent animals but for the country's image!

I happened to have lived in Russia and though Russian Tigers [bengal and Siberian] are not house cats... they are ruthlessly hunted down and killed.

They are hunted with dogs, chocked with sticks. Never once are they shot because it'll ruin the fur coat.

A while ago, i read something about some people using rabbits to practice martial arts with young children of their family watching them.

In some cases, it is the inferior complex of humanity [the rabbits].

Other times, they are so heartless that they do not care for anything but themselves [tigers, house cats, and dogs]

I do not believe you understand their culture... Yes it is horrible, but we [in America] do plenty of horrible things to animals.

Look at the hunting of wolves to near death many years ago.

They were caught, covered in oil, and set on fire to blaze across the plains.

There is many cases where military units back then, about 30-50 men, would trap a wolf and then release it to shoot it to pieces.

Tainted meat killed them, as well as other predators.

You can not comdemn these people because they are doing what they are doing without looking at the history of America as well.

Having just read the post about boiling cats in S.O.S. section of this forum, I decided to do something myself.

I agree, that boiling cats alive in Korea is wrong... But you must first look at other cultures, including America, before condemning people that have been doing this for years.

American cases.

1. Killing of wolves: Many years ago, timber/grey wolves were nearly hunted until there were no more.

They were shot at [some times a military unit would trap & release a wolf only to shoot it to pieces].

Tainted meat killed them off, as well as many other predators... Including the Bald Eagle.

They were covered in oil, and lit afire, so that they could race across the plains burning to death.

2. Killing of chickens, pigs, and cattle... Not all are kept in those cozy little "story-book" conditions.

Russian/China

1. Killing of large predators, tigers.

They are hunted down with dogs, trapped, and finally chocked with hands or sticks because the fur can not be ruined with bullets and spear holes.

Cubs strave to death because of their mothers been killed.

Whatever cubs are saved by the wrong hands enter horrible circuses.. where they are kept in small cages, and only allowed out to perform by jumping through hoopes of fire & such.

There are many more examples, which if you don't get the point, I'll be willing to enlight you to.

House cats, are NOT the only animals suffering in the world.

Queencat, this thread didn't belong in The Lounge (a place for light conversation). Because you wrote it in response to this thread, I merged it into the thread. I hope you don't mind!
