I'm done with it. I simply cannot eat that crap any longer. I'm trying to eat Yoplait 100 calorie, 15 g. Greek yogurt. And oh god, but it's horrible stuff. Absolutely horrible. The texture is like wallpaper paste, I swear. And I can't get past it. High in protein, low in calories, low in fat. And crappy. I've tried other Greek yogurts, too, and can't find anything that is worth eating; it all has the texture of wallpaper paste. All of it. I'm looking for something that is low in calories, low in fat, but yet, has the protein I need. As a mid-morning snack.

Any thoughts? And don't tell me to try another yogurt. I already have tried other Greek yogurts. Worst stuff ever.

Thanks!

Gosh Greek style yogurt is my favorite. I prefer plain - I use Fage and doctor it up according to tastes.

In fact, I never liked yogurt much until I discovered the Greek style.  I stay away from others; those always have too "thin" a texture for my tastes.

Wish I had an idea for you!

Take regular full fat plain (unflavored) yogurt. I use Danon. Line a coarse mesh strainer with a coffee filter. Place over a bowl. Dump in yogurt. Refrigerate. Whey will drain out. Leave for a couple of hours to as long as overnight. Overnight gives yogurt "cheese" while just a couple of hours results in thickened yogurt. Flavor to taste. I use whey in soup making, bread baking, for pancake batter, or - in summer - as a pleasant chilled drink flavored with mint or whatever takes your fancy.

I'm not sure if I've had Yoplait yet, but I can't stand Dannon Oikos, ick. Like you said, wallpaper paste, and kind of chalky. I do like Chobani; the coconut flavor is my favorite. I don't get the 100-calorie kind, maybe that's worse, idk.

Are you just eating it for the protein and calcium? For a replacement, do you like cottage cheese? It has more protein, not sure about calcium. Or maybe a low-fat cheddar. Or kefir? There are a lot of options, I'm sure you can find something that will be a decent replacement. Beef jerky? Hmm, probably too salty. Just throwing out ideas :tongue2:.

I am afraid I am of no help either.  I really like Greek Yogurt.  My favorite is Fage but I usually only buy  it when it is on sale.  You also don't like cheesecake because of the texture so that is probably why.  The texture of Greek yogurt is very similar.  I actually didn't care for yogurt much until the Greek yogurt.

I haven't tried it yet, but I've been reading about Icelandic Yogurt, which has more protein than Greek Yogurt. However, it's likely the higher protein means it is thicker than Greek Yogurt, so probably not what you're looking for. Might be worth looking into, though.

Can you get decent tofu where you are? They do some amazing soft tofu over here, really creamy and you can add soy sauce, grated ginger or some sliced fruit to them to make them either sweet or savory.

I was also going to suggest kefir. Have you tried quark (European fresh cheese/curds)? I recall seeing it at some supermarkets in the U.S..

Have you tried Noosa? It is pretty much the only yogurt I can eat the whole container of. I get the little single serve ones and throw them in my bag for a breakfast on the run. Haven't really paid attention to nutrition because it is my breakfast and then a handful of nuts or piece of jerkyfor a snack if I get hungry before lunch.

I told my human mom that a lot of my cat friends get to eat green tripe and asked her to get some for me.

She said that she would have to special order it and pay for shipping and she doesn't want to do that just for a treat.

I told her that green tripe is chock full of probiotics and has the perfect ratio of calcium to phosphorus – 1:1, and it

also contains the essential fatty acids, Linoleic and Linolenic, in the right proportion.  I said, "Please?  Please?  Can you get me some green tripe?  All my friends get it."

She said that green tripe is very stinky and hard to cut into small pieces, never mind the special ordering and shipping costs.

I told her that my friends' human moms said to cut it into pieces while it was still partially frozen and it's easier and less smelly.  "Please?  Please?"

She said, "Just because your friends go crazy for it, doesn't mean that you will like it.  You've done that before.  I don't want to do all that work for something you won't eat."

I said to her, "OK, but if I don't like it, you can give it to Charlie.  That Corgi dog will eat anything."

She said, "Hmmmm.  I'll have to give it more thought."

I don't like Oikos either. Funny aftertaste. I also like Chobani 100 calorie yogurt. Lasts a long time & comes in several flavors. The only yogurt I buy.

I don't like cottage cheese either. Cream cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese are all on my list of Ick. I can eat regular yogurt, although it took me a while to get used to it. But the Greek stuff? No. I'm sorry, but no. I was eating Yoplait, simply because it has the most protein, 14 to 15 grams, depending on the flavor and it's 100 calories. Our stores don't carry Noosa. I've not seen quark.

Yes, I am primarily eating the stuff for the protein; I'm not really concerned about the calcium.

I'm thinking about hummus (I really like chickpeas), maybe with some carrot sticks. And almonds. Something like that.

Thanks!

Another option then would be chickpea salad, with onions, cucumbers, etc. I have a recipe somewhere.

I love hummus. Especially homemade but Boar's Head makes a really good one too. It's great with pretzels. It's very easy to make too.

Sorry...I honestly thought you were doing the "talk like a cat" thing and were looking for a cat treat instead of yogurt. So, I guess green tripe is out.

How about boiled eggs? Some weeks I boil 3-4 on Sunday for snacks through the week.

LOL. I was wondering about the green tripe. That's a hard core snack!

LOL It is high-protein though.

Now I feel kind of stupid.
I bet it is.

No need for that. Tripe is used in a lot of recipes like menudo. I know many people who like it. When I lived in Colorado, a lot of people would eat menudo for breakfast. It is allegedly the best hangover cure there is. :D
