Took my 6 month old kitten Midna to the vet the other day and my vet commented saying she was probably 9-10 months old, not 6. I corrected her saying she is in fact 6 months, the vet was shocked because she said there's no way she could be 6 months old and 8.4 pounds? I figured that was pretty normal though. I just had her dewormed a few weeks ago and she jumped from 6 pounds to 8 pounds in 2ish weeks. She eats a TON (even to the point of trying to steal my older cat's food as well) and is really active but I don't think 8 and a half pounds is that big for a kitten. She's not fat or anything.

In comparison, I just weighed Meowbert today and he's 14.6 pounds. His last visit at the vet in February, he was 13 pounds. Since getting Midna, he's been a lot more active and I thought he was slimming down because he doesn't look as pudgy. But no one ever says he's fat, they just say he's a big cat lol.

Maybe I'm feeding them mutant cat food?! Haha I was feeding them 4Health which they liked, recently switched to Purina Beyond because I had a coupon for a free bag and although I really don't like or trust Purina, they absolutely love the Chicken & Egg recipe. Even Meowbert is starting to finish his entire bowl in one sitting.

Dry food can often cause weight gain, but with a growing kitten I wouldn't worry about it if she is big all over and not just in the abdomen. She IS rather large, but as long as she is active and healthy, enjoy! I had a cat we called the Hulk that weighed almost twenty pounds and was not fat at all, he was bigger than a lot of neighborhood dogs!

My male cat was 9 pounds at 6 months!  He eventually grew into that weight.  He was on mainly wet kitten food mixed with adult canned food (grain-free) and supplemented with dry food.  I would recommend you start mixing adult food with kitten food and switch to mainly wet food (grain-free) and also a grain-free dry food.
