He got Feline Distemper FVRCP.

The vet techs said they tried to draw blood to do blood tests but couldn't get it. Maybe they injured him trying to draw blood? Is this the location to draw blood?

Yes that's a place where ive seen blood taken on my cat. Someone can correct me but vaccines are generally given on the outside areas.

My vet gave that vaccine in between the shoulders... and the rabies vaccine in her hip. I've never heard of the thigh unless they couldn't find the vein? I would have your vet look at it to be safe.

It looks like they tried to get into a vein and blew it. It leaves quite a nice bruise.

I an a human doctor, not a vet and any advice that I give about cats should be checked with a vet.  However vaccinations are usually given subcutaneously,  under the skin.

I have seen the photographs and diagnosing from a photograph is notoriously difficult, but it appears to be a bruise from taking blood from a vein.  These bruises can be prevented by applying pressure to the site for a few minutes after the needle has been withdrawn, but despite doing this, a bruise is common.

It is most unlikely that these bruises cause any problems to a healthy person, or cat.  Bleeding may occur and cause a large bruise, these generally settle but if they become larger or there is any concern. then you should take the cat back to the vet.

With all best wishes,

Geoffrey
