Hi!

I brought my 7 month old kitten Dobby back from the vets today after being spayed (thinking that would be the most stressful part) to come home to two complications. The first is my other male cat (who is usually all over her and by her side) hissing at her, not acting aggressive, more defensive and running away, but i have read that this is just due to the smell after the procedure, is that correct and will they be best pals again?? And the second being that her stitching is possibly opening a little... this may just be me being paranoid but it is defiantly not fully closed and there is a little bright colored blood around it, again is this normal?

Sorry if these are really obvious questions or all over the place, I'm just stressing out quite a bit but I'd really appreciate if any of you could help!

Thanks!

Hello @IGuessILikeCats
and welcome to the Cat Site.

Yes, you are correct. Dobby's brother is just reacting to the Vet clinic smells, Dobby's healing, or the antiseptic they used during the spay procedure.

This will go away, and your male will go back to his loving self with Dobby.

You can try to gently rub down both cats with towels, cat blankets, or even use their toys and bedding, to distract from the smell, and get Dobby's pal, to accept the smell.

Just rub them down, near the cheek areas, and place it near him, or in front of him, and watch his reactions.

Your second question is a little harder to comment on, since it depends upon 'how open the surgery site is', 'how much it is bleeding', and 'what type of stitches they used....internal, external, dissolving, or glue, to close the spay site'.

If you can get a photo of the surgical site, and send it to your Vet, that would be best.

As long as the spay site, is not weeping, hot, or excessively opened, and the tissue around it looks clean and healthy, then your Dobby should heal up well.

Can you post a photo?

But again, best to send photos to your Vet, so they can properly assess it.

Photos would be good. It sounds like your kitty's ovaries may have been higher up so you have a big incision. Usually the incision is quite small. You should not be seeing and red tissue.

Hi guys!

Thanks a lot for the replies, Dobby and Snails (the other male cat) seem to be getting on a bit better now, no hissing they just seem a bit cautious. I managed to bring Dobby to the vet and they said all is good, she just might have been moving around a bit too much due to excitement which could have caused a little bleeding which has now stopped! They said to keep an eye on it and update them if anything else happens (I'll probably update here too!). Thanks again guys!

Great to hear this update.

Continued health, and back to normal vibes, for your Dobby and Snails.
