3 days ago one of my cats gave birth to three healthy kittens and one that died due to a fatal hernia. Today I go to check on the kittens and one is mewing in pain,it wont move around and mum seems to be abandoning it. It has what seems to be salive coming out its mouth too,its head seems to be small compared to the rest and whenever I hold it it holds its paws out oddly. I cant afford to take it to the vet and dont want it to die for something I can help it with, what can I do?

I  am sorry that you lost the other kitten. It sounds like there was something wrong since birth. When the mother cat abandons a baby, it often means that she realizes that something is wrong and she devotes her strength and nourishment to the baby most likely to survive. If it is a bad disease, the outcome may be bleak for the entire litter. You can post about losing the kitten in the Crossing the Bridge Forum. You also can look up about losing a kitten at our member Hissy's website: www.kitten-rescue.com. sometimes with even the most expert care, we still lose little ones....Heaven is one little kitty soul richer tonight...please give the mama kitty scritches for me, as they often grieve..

Ive owned over 50 cats at this point,im used to losing them and fully understand how to care for a grieving cat. Shes going to get lots of love tonight [emoji]10084[/emoji] she just decided to go for a walk for some fresh air too. Im just hoping the other two will be ok now.

So sorry to hear........this is your 2nd one ....somethings not right

I would change the bedding get a warm damp cloth wipe down the mom cat

underneath.  Make sure it's suckling fine with the mom really monitor closely.

Pick up some KMR kitten feeding formula you may need to supplement or take over incase of emergency.

I believe they may have both died due to birth defects and the heat. Australia is hot and not much can be done about it. Im going to start monitoring the kittens as much as possible. The mother is perfectly healthy. The first one was doomed to die from the moment it came out as it had its small intestines coming out. The second one just seemed to randomly die without much cause. Im definitely going to pay close attention to the others

Sorry, by fresh air do you mean that mom is going outside?

I'm so sorry for the loss of the kittens. Can you weigh the rest of the litter daily?
