First of all I'd prefer not to debate the fact I let my cats roam free. I just can't keep them in and I accept the consequences/benefits as they happen. The freedom of life and the risks and rewards that come with the level you choose, for your dependants and for your selves is a choice we all make and mine happens to be, as usual in the minority. There's nothing absolute to conclude or learn in such discussions/debates so I hear your accusations loud and clear. And I respect them. Also, as horribly sad this is, thank you for your empathy, for my cat, and perhaps for me but however not much judgement nor empathy needs to be over expressed here... Well... It's a free world, in here at least so whatever, bring it on. Whatever compels you.

I'm posting this just to share, get off my chest with other... I'll say people with hearts who are familiar with expressing them through pets. So should anyone else reading this may have or will experience similar i offer my own deepest condolences.

So I found him, the guy in my avatar thanks to his GPS collar. It showed this morning he'd been in one spot a mile away since last night. He never had gone so far. I rode my bike to find him cut in half on the side of the road just a few feet into someone's yard.

I've since taken him home, shown him to his brother, just so he knows, and buried him in my backyard. As much as i could bare to inspect him it appeared a clean cut, no bowels, no mess. I'd like to believe it was a skilful natural predator but speculation expressed in many similar stories from a 'cat cut in half' Google search suggest more sinister human motives.

At this point in just trying to get this out of me and move on, something I'm not usually good at, so I'd rather not care who did this and why. Whoever, however, i suppose nature is nature even if disturbingly human.

If you've any feedback feel free to share. Thank you and sorry, wherever it may apply

Ouch!

So sad to hear. I've lost far too many cats to coyotes; once they get a taste of the outdoors it's tough to keep them in.

Again, so sad to hear.

Oh wow, what a horrific thing to find!  I'm sorry you had to go through seeing your cat like that.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  I can't even imagine.

And I hope it wasn't a person who did that, the idea that someone could do that is just too awful to contemplate :(

I'm terribly sorry you had to go through this and so sorry for your beloved friend. (I couldn't look at the picture), but I can only imagine it was horrible. I've grown up with family cats, all being outside, so I'm not in judgement of you. My cat I have now and my former cat have been indoor cats. I sometimes feel bad for my cat because she can't chase bugs and feel the grass under her paws, but I live next to a busy road and I got her from someone who has always kept her inside. I feel she still has a quality life. There are plusses and minuses each way, and I understand that everyone's life is different. All I can say is, whoever did this (if he/she is "human"), will be answering to a just Creator one day for it IMO. If you do end up finding out who it was, I would try to have them prosecuted since animal cruelty is now a felony. I would even call the local police and report this because they need to know that this type of crime has taken place. Truly sick people don't know how to stop themselves, so it will happen to other animals unless the person is stopped. If you choose to go to the police and they brush it off as not important, remind them that this is not only a felony (at least in California now) but that most likely this person will escalate to hurting or even murdering children or others in the future. Maybe letting the local humane society know by putting this on their Facebook page and the area you're in will help catch the person. People like this are are arrogant and stupid( not to mention losers) eneough to tell people what they did. And it could warn people in the area to keep their pets inside at least temporarily. I might even put posters on telephone poles and see what happens. You never know, your cat could end up preventing a future serial killer or a child from being seriously harmed. Seriously. Anyone who did this is extremely dangerous to people as well . Sorry you had to see this and I'm personally going to pray that this person will be caught and prosecuted. They most likely will be eventually, for something. Remember that no one gets away with anything in this life in the end. Your friend is in a beautiful place right now. My heart really goes out to you[emoji]128156[/emoji]

Thank you guys. I'm sure we can all relate on some level. Times like these seem to literally break your heart open and you begin to touch others in your mind, other people, animals, close to you or estranged... I guess as we grieve we relearn to love too. At least we should take something meaningful from pain.... Ill stop. My mind is being flooded with dramatic cliches. Thanks

One time, I did: the tail and the upper jawbone, with canine teeth. Buried them and planted a palm tree over them.

The rest I'm quite sure were either eaten in their entirety, or dragged somewhere where I never found them.

Ouch, still hurts. But I have my other kitties who need love.

Yes. I've done the same. My eldest who passed months ago has one of my healthiest trees growing above him. I believe it is a guava. If not then pomegranate. Time will tell. But it's super lush compared to my other baby trees. Will have another tree planned soon.

fine...

Every night he liked to come in. I knew it was him because my other rushes through the cat door banging it, where my "little guy" tired from running around all night would almost sneak in, slowly walk into view then say hello in his same signature hello, then nose kiss my lazy hand hanging off the bed then lure me to the kitchen with demands. But not before I combed out his fleas would i feed him. Didn't want him to gain too much power over me. Never will i hear his sweet hello or 'c'mon feed me already' but in my dreams, wherein I'll inevitably realize I'm dreaming then wake up sad. I know, I've done it with the other. Even his damn cardboard box he loved to sleep on in looking at has too much emotional power to it. I guess it's ready for the recycle bin now. I suppose i hope some baby coyotes or monitor lizards or eaglets are harmoniously rejoicing this fat afternoon. Or some evil twisted teenagers are finally getting some satisfaction from their wretched existences. "little guy" (never found time to give him a legal name) lived short, 4 years, but to the fullest. Okay, thanks

Oh what a cutie with his tennis ball. Did you prop his arm like that? What a beauty.

If I was there and I saw an animal or especially a human hurting him...I would..let's just say I might end up in prison. I would SO go off on someone like that. I'm furious this happened.

thank you. And no. He was in the middle of playing with it and i was at the right place at the right time *click*.

Yeah... There is "evil" out there. Or "nature". I've been burned by evil so much i try to see nature as much as possible. See the baby that the predator one was. See the evil that the ones i love possess and that i myself possess and hope to redirect it before it teaches victims lessons. I'm just projecting a mental experiment, an imaginary vision of the future. I'm probably going to trip an old man or kid on a skateboard to cope with this...

Might sound funny but when i feel sad about things like these, this for example, i try to think of the chickens me and my cats eat who barely got a fraction of a shot at life we got. But that's cuz I'm cheap and buy the $3 caged ones. Actually tho, i don't eat much chicken and buy free range for the cats. But the cheap gizzards tho cuz that's all i find for that stuff. I'm trying to convert this to a higher sense and respect for life. Right? It's a lot more that's going on than our own small tragedies that we gotta take in no? And be grateful at all times for what "god" has provided which is ever-present / ubiquitous. I'm just working on believing in my words

No, it doesn't sound funny at all. Im sorry other evil has been done to you..and now this. Sometimes I do not know how some people can handle things that happen in this life. It doesn't seem fair. I guess what you're doing, how you are trying to cope with this is the "higher truth /way". Although I want to personally bash this person's whole body until they can't move anymore, they probably wouldn't even be phased much by it because they are probably so dead inside anyway. They would have had to have had their sole seriously damaged by someone or something for them to do something like this to someone as beautiful and sweet as Little Guy. I think the "Hurt people hurt people" phrase has alot of truth to it. I remember a girl in high school who bullied me..I heard later from someone that her dad knocked her around alot and would punch her in the face. Or the girl on the news recently who was arrested for cyber bulling a classmate so badly that the classmate took her own life. It was said that when the police came to arrest her, she was cold as ice, no emotion. Then soon after that, it was on the news where the mother of the bully was filmed beating her kids. So, I guess that even if some people do evil things to more innocent people, or animals, it's because they can't feel. When it comes down to it, as much as my vengeful side would love to really get them back tenfold and then some, I know that no matter what they've done, I'm lucky that I can experience my own sole and emotions..that I can love a precious pet, or truly see and feel beauty that they will never be able to experience.

I saw a bunch of YouTube videos on hawks/eagles/falcons snatching up cats. Seems very possible. I hope that was the case. One big bird maybe two tore him in half mid air to get to guts, discarded his upper half to unload some weight and took basically a bowl of food for a family. Had horrible visions keeping up last night of him walking through the field at the middle school around here, which is as far as he usually goes, not aware of the bird above. He's white half about, so at night he's more visible maybe? Idk.Then the rest of the story probably wasn't quick and easy, at least as far as the YouTube videos would suggest. Hard to imagine someone in the middle of the night gets the urge to do something like that. Anyway, i just keep reminding myself he's perfectly fine right now, and my grief just serves to increase my empathy and compassion which is a good thing... and my resilience to future losses and loss is just part of life. Perspective right?

So very sorry for your loss. Someone mentioned calling the police. Please do it. You may not be the only one. People who do things like this are often sloppy about covering up and bragging. Please get the word out to your neighbors. I do understand the need to go outside. I too let mine out. The only thing I have changed is we go outside with them. I don't let her roam as much anymore.

Maybe get into a routine to walk around the property every hour or so or train them on a harness. That's how I trained mine to stay near our home.

So very sorry again. I can't imagine the pain of finding this.

I'm hoping it was an animal too. That would be super hard to think about, but maybe his body quickly went into shock and his suffering was lessened. My last cat was strictly indoors and I had to leave her for part of the day while she was sick. It was Easter day so all the vets were closed, I had just moved 2 days before and didnt even know how to get to the emergency vet. I begged someone to drive me and her to the vet,but the person didn't want to drive in the snow storm. I thought she might get better if she just rested, but when I came home that day, she was convulsing and her little head was rocking backwards and she was gasping for air, and she couldn't see. Someone told me of a vet who would come to the house to put her down, so I called him immediately. It was the most horrible thing Ive witnessed and I still feel so terrible for leaving her for part of that day. I just didn't want to stuff her in a cat carrier and drive her somewhere since it was moving two days before that had put her over the edge (she was almost 23) I had no idea she would end up like that and I racked my brain trying to think of how I could've prevented her suffering. I vowed to never let her suffer..and then this happened. So being an indoor kitty isn't always easier when it comes to death, so please don't feel guilty about him being indoor/outdoor. Like you said, loss is just part of life, and he had many great moments in his life, and a brother and Mom who loved him. He's happy as hec now and wishes you could see how cool it is there.

Ps. His picture reminds me of those soccer players who proudly pose with their soccer balls.
RIP Little guy.
