Any ideas other than DSH tabby?

I always thought my cat, Kenzie, was a regular domestic shorthair. But now that he's turning 3, I think there might be a larger breed somewhere in his genes. He weighs 16 pounds. He's not overweight--simply long and dense. (Our 9-year old calico DSH weights 7 pounds and is dwarfed by him when they lay together.) His coat is smooth, but his belly fur is longer, softer, and shaggy. He has yellow/gold eyes. His tail is long and he loves to stick it straight in the air like a lemur. He is quite vocal! He purrs like an engine and meows any time he sees us or wants something. He's playful--romping loudly through the house and exploring interesting spaces. I playfully call him "Moose" because of his size and how he comes barreling through the house. He loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. He's always gotten along with our dog and other cat (the same can't be said of our calico who hated him the first month we had him...but she's come around). Thanks for any insight!

Hello AnnaLou, yes, your kitty is Tabby, but a Domestic Medium Hair Tabby, and not a DSH.

Males are usually bigger and heavier than females. He is probably on a bigger and lanky built side.

Is he neutered? Here's an article on why neuter your cats :-

He's a handsome chap. Do post more photos of him! ;)

Mmmm...
Nothing to say about the tabby patterns, but well, seeing the las pic, that IS a wide nose for the average domestic cat, I would indeed suspect, as you do, some Maine Coon or Norweian Forest back in his family tree.I am not an expert on these breeds, but I Did some research a couple of years ago, when I was planning to aquire a big cat. I would say there are features in his face (nose bridge, ears, etc) that suggest that a grandpa or grandma could be a NF or a MC.
By the way, the best way to show what you mean by BIG cat is copying this "look at my little lamb" pose

Here, with your little lamb, we do not need to ask, "what breed is this?"  This is a Maine Coon who would be a contender for Best Of Breed at virtually any show in Europe or America.  He looks roughly the size of my late Maine Coon Cat, Big Red, and perhaps just a big larger than my Norwegian Forest Cat, Bob.

He was high in Google images for Maine Coon, so I think that he probably won many titles.
You owned a Maine Coon and currently have a Norwegian Forest? I am so jelaous! I've always wanted a really big cat. Might have something to do with the fact that I have great danes, it could be affecting my perception of size. Many people say that my own cat, Raistlin, is big, but I see him medium size most of the time.

Bob isn't a big cat.

He's just barely 15 kilos.

I agree a mixed out Maine Coon could like as this - and be shorthairish, because he IS mixed out...   But no typical norwegian - these tend to have quite characteristics triangularish head and muzzle.
