My cat just recovered from an UTI, now she's having gas and diarrhea. I'm unsure what's causing it.

I have her on Royal Canin Hypoallergenic HP dry food. Although she's normally just has the Hypoallergenic food instead of the HP version. When I picked up the food they said it shouldn't make much of a change since it's almost the exact same formula, in fact it's for cats that have a much worse allergy to food.

So I don't know if it's maybe just stress or if it's the food change?

I don't really have the money to be going to the vets once again.

Any advice is appreciated. [emoji]9829[/emoji] PS She is an elderly kitty now, she'll be 14 years old soon but she's mostly healthy! We had the bloodwork done to prove that! :D

I'm assuming she had an antibiotic for the UTI.  Antibiotics are great things for killing nasty bacteria that cause illness.  They unfortunately are very good at killing the beneficial bacteria that keep fungus in check *and* the beneficial bacteria living in the small intestine that are necessary for digesting food and taking the nutrients from food and giving it to the host animal.  Diarrhea and fungal infections are very common during and following antibiotic use because it's a too efficient germ killer.

Talk to the vet about a probiotic that is safe for cats.  That will help with getting the gut bacteria back.  Otherwise time will do it as the gut bacteria will come back, but you have to avoid dehydration during this time.

@arouetta

Yes, she had antibiotics and for a short period she had pain medication as well. If dehydration is a problem, they gave me IV fluids and such to take care of that during the UTI since she was dehydrated when I took her in first. Also since the UTI, I have been keeping 3 bowls of water around the house to encourage her to drink.
