Welcome to TCS, Zaami and Mint!

Do you live in Greece? Aegeans originated as street cats in Greece. I can't think of any breed registries off the top of my head that recognize them as a breed. Your cat looks like a bicolor Domestic Shorthair, and a lovely one at that. However, if you live outside of Greece, with Aegean cats pretty much only in Greece, and the fact that there is not much international demand or recognition for this cat (as it is not in any breed registries), it is very unlikely that your kitty has Aegean influence. If you do live in Greece then it is entirely possible.

Aegeans, though beautiful, are moderately built cats with moderate head shape, and they come in many colors. Therefore, they look similar to Domestic Shorthair cats. For this reason I can't make a breed identification based on looks (as would be possible with CFA/TICA breeds).

No matter what Mint's heritage is, he is a gorgeous boy!

For the last twenty years, the Feline Federation of Greece (Ελληνικός Όμιλος Γάτας) has been trying to manage a petition through TICA for recognition of the breed, but because they're naturally occurring, there are no "breeders" and no breeding programs, and hence it might prove impossible, although the are recognised by the Ε.Ό.Γ. and have been entered in shows in Greece and Cyprus.  The dilemma is unfortunate because their population extends across nearly all of the more than 200 Cycladic Islands, and as a "breed" their good health could be maintained far better than that of most breeds because of the incredible breadth and depth of the gene pool.

Yes I do live in Greece and Mint was a street cat before I found him ( I found him after a car accident he had), for me it does not really matter what breed he is I was just really curious because I found him in a wealthy area of Athens and there I have seen many pure breads and mixed breeds. Mint's mother had this amazing tiger - white coat and long shinny hair but unfortunatly she disappeared cause she was living in the street.

Its a shame that Aegean cats are not recognized as a breed because they are a really healthy breed indeed most of them living up to 21 years without serious medical problems, you hardly hear about kidney or heart problems at least until they grow to 19-20 where most of the cases I heard were at that age. Most of the times they are playfull and sweet, ofcourse with exceptions.

If you have any questions tell me ! :)
