How do you tell a lilac from a silvered-out blue?

I pulled a few kittens the other day from a local shelter where they'd been surrendered/seized from a hoarding situation.  One is a very unique color and I think she may be a lilac, but I'm not certain.  There was an adult male that color and another juvenile kitten, along with multiple Siamese-type cats, to give you an idea of what was in the gene pool.

I am working on photos now, but she doesn't look like any blue cat I've ever seen, but might be a silver?  I've only ever seen silver in a blue tabby situation where the stripes are dark to black and the color is not blue but not brown either, and actually looks silver.  If I had to describe this girl's color, I'd say lavender.

OK...so the photos didn't turn out, the flash makes her look blue.  She is bluish but very soft blue--not the Russian blue color and not grey either.

Are you having trouble uploading the photos? Or is it that they don't do her justice? If you need help, let me know. It would be helpful to have some photos for people to see and decide her colouring. Whatever her colour turns out to be, I'm sure she's glad to be rescued out of that situation. :)

I know how to upload the photos, it's just when I take them without the flash, they're dark, and when I take them with the flash, it changes what color she is.  Maybe with a little more ambient lighting I can some better ones.

I heartily agree that regardless of her color she is happy to be here.  The animal control group I got her from was overwhelmed by two large seizures within a few days...these cats were in little crates in their garage, luckily the weather was nice.  But they had no kennel space for all these poor kitties.  Happily a lot of local and not-so-local rescues stepped up and I think we cleared them out!  I have a call into the vet to get the two we took spayed.

Can you post the pictures anyway, even though you think they aren't good enough? We might get the information we need from those pictures ;)

Anyway, you can best see difference between blue and lilac by checking the pawpeds and her nose color. For blue, they will be like a light grayish color. For lilac/lavender it will be more pinkish. Also, for silver, it gets less silver below the feet, so if she is without white, you can also check the hair color at that place to determine the difference between blue and lilac.

Also, for silver you can follow a straight line on her back and kind of comb the hairs 2 ways. You can picture this for us and we can tell you whether she is silver or not. Silver means that part of the hairs are white, and the upper part of the hair will be whatever color she is. Behind the ears and on the back are best places to see whether a cat is silver or not. Do know that there are also bad silvers, and sometimes it's impossible to tell for sure.
