What do all of you do with your cats when a tornado is coming or when the sirens sound? We live in Texas, and had a tornado warning last night. It took us 5 to 7 minutes to get all the cats in a carriers and in our safe room with us. That included getting our daughter in which we did first.

We foster and have 6 cats, 4 of which are ours. A couple of them hate going in crates so they fight to get in. But the one that took most of the time is the one that use to be a feral cat. She is now a good cat, BUT, she does not want you to pick her and will run from you if you try. I almost had to leave her but wouldve hated myself...so finally trapped her.

What it is that you all do, any tips or tricks?

Is the tornado room part of the house? As in, you don't have to go outside to get to it? If so, run training drills with the cats where you call them into that room for treats. Pick their most favorite treat and only give it in that room. After a while, it should become a routine for them to run into that room when you call. It may not work in a real emergency. But it's better than trying to stuff a panicked cat into a carrier!

Ours is just in a pantry, which is the room with the most walls in between us. Eventually we want an actual shelter.

Thats not a bad idea. Unfortunately that would only work for about half of our cats, but would be work a try for those then hunt down the rest
