Back in June someone threw 3 teeny tiny kittens in our yard. the other neighbors got 2 and 1.On the way to the humane society we turned around and came back home and have been raising them ever since. Beautiful babies now 10 months old. 2 boys and 1 girl. We had them all spayed/neutered. Feeding only the very best cat food. 5 days ago the female, Lexie Gray suddenly quit eating. She refused 7 meals no matter what we tried. Finally 2 days ago in the night she crossed the "Rainbow Bridge". I could not believe how fast she went down. When I picked her up out of the crate I noticed that the inside of her ears were a jaundiced color like a person would get that had liver issues. Has anyone else experienced such a tragedy and if so what do you think could have caused it and so quickly in just 4 days??? I miss her so much, she was a purring little motor boat and so, so loving.I don't want it to happen to her brother's or my 2 old puss's.

Thanks in advance for you kind words.

Also FYI, Kentucky, where I live, is the worst State in the Nation for animal cruelty. Tennessee is 14th. Something to REALLY proud of! I am not originally from here. It makes me ill to see how animals are treated here.

Please accept my condolences, you are a wonderful person and I am so very sorry for your heartbreaking loss.

Is there a good vet in your area you could call and ask?

Thanks Dustydiamond for your advice. I have to go to our vet Tuesday to have the casts/splints off of "Sunny" the brother of Lexie that passed away last week. The 3 of them loved being out side. Sunny decided to cross the road 3 weeks ago and was hit by a car and left in the road to die. A neighbor drove by and called to ask if we had a yellow cat. I looked out the window and there he was laying in the road. I rescued him, didn't expect him to make it through the night but he did. We got him to the vet in the morning and was diagnosed with 2 broken legs. So, Tuesday he goes to the vet to get the casts off before he chews them off! I will talk to the vet about "Lexie Gray" and the liver issue. It was just so awful and fast.

Oh my gosh...I'm sorry about your kitty that passed away and Sunny being injured. So glad he's getting better, though.

My cat, Moses, died of liver failure six months ago and it's still hard for me to talk about him without breaking down. The vet doesn't know what caused it but he was 17 when he passed. He had acute failure, hepatitis. Personally, I think he ate something that made him sick but I can't prove it. He ate a large cricket in my apartment and started feeling unwell afterward. The cricket may have been poisoned, as they do pest control here.

My mistake was that I took him to a vet at Petco who said there was nothing wrong with him, even though I explained how concerned I was about his deepening urine color (it was turning orange)and brushed off my request for a blood test, saying it wasn't necessary. Like a fool, I took him at his word. This was Labor Day weekend and my regular vet was closed.

Early Tuesday morning I spied his tongue underneath looked slightly yellow and rushed him to my vet. He was becoming jaundiced and I spent the next 10 days doing everything possible to make him well, without vain.

Is it possible she ingested something toxic? Not only did Moses quit eating but he wasn't pooping, either.
