Hi there,
My 1 year old (ish) rescue cat who is litterbox trained keeps peeing on my bed, on any clothes left on floor, blankets etc. I'm steam cleaning my mattress and washing my sheets EVERYDAY! How do I correct this behaviour? Is she mad at me? I empty her litterbox everyday, ensure there is enough litter etc. And she only shares with her 5 month old kitten... my partner is getting very upset with her behaviour... any tips are greatly appreciated!

Cats don't pee on your clothes because they are mad at you so don't worry about that. I think first you may need to rule out a medical condition such as a bladder infection. If it's not that it sounds like your cat has become insecure about something and is "claiming" you by peeing on your clothes. Anything change recently in your household??

Is she spayed? If not, marking would be a likely suspect.

Try putting many litter boxes all around the house. Different types of boxes with different types of litter. Most importantly take her to a vet to rule out medical problems, then worry about the behavior.

Thank you for the replies! We did recently move to a home with two other dogs.. but I can assure you, the cats rule the roost and Get along with them just fine. They also have access to all rooms in the house (the dogs do not)! I will certainly go buy another litterbox! When we spay her will ask vet to have a look! Anybody know what the symtpoms of a UTI are in a cat? Thank you for the suggestions you guys, glad that my cat is not angry at me!

Also, sorry one more question! Will she "spray" or mark her teritory even when not in heat?

Yes. Can you arrange to have her spayed? The younger cat will need to be fixed too. It's important for their health and to keep the peace.

UTI's can be caused by a variety of things. If it's a bacterial infection the cat will have a slight fever and will need antibiotics. Stress can also trigger them. She might be trying to show her dominance to the other cat and two dogs, even if she seems perfectly happy.

To get rid of the urine smell soak your clothes in cold water and a few cups of white vinegar. Put them through the wash and then soak again using an enzyme cleaner. I really like the Fizzion tablets that dissolve in hot water. One tablet per kilo of clothes is usually enough.

After soaking in enzyme cleaner put through the was again. The smell and staining should all be gone.

Sorry to post again,
But our renters have made us tear up the floor and put in laminate so the vet is just not an option this month for her... she is still peeing. we have put her in cat diapers because we cannot afford to be washing our clean clothes everyday... she only seems to pee in our bedroom, we have taken apart bed so we can lift up the mattress on its side during the day and she doesn't seem to pee on it.. we have bought hangers for our clothes but still anything that is on the floor gets peed on. I haven't managed to catch her in the act so I cant spray her with the water bottle.. i put my boyfriends shirt she urinated on, on her cat bed and it doesn't seem to phase her.. my boyfriend is at his wit's end... and our landlord has found out about the issue and may evict us.. or demand we rehome the cats if We cannot fix this problem.. i am desperate! Ive heard of the tinfoil trick.. but I can't tinfoil the entire room :/

She really needs to see a vet. I'm sorry. It's very likely a medical issue and punishment won't help.

My cat had this problem. It was a UTI. He had to go to the vet for antibiotics. Try to find a vet with the word Clinic in the name, Clinics are cheaper. It only cost me $100 total. They gave him an antibiotic shot, then a liquid antibiotic that I had to mix in his wet food for 10 days. He was feeling better by the time he got home that day. Also, I have to limit his dry food to under half a cup. The rest has to be wet food. Also you can try diluting tuna juice with water and giving that to help flush out the bladder, like a Tablespoon or two a day.

Yikes.
Pee problems are so frustrating. This is a big sign of a UTI.   As TalkingPeanut has said; it sounds like a medical issue so disciplining her will not help.  If it IS an infection; she is in pain and it will not get better till you can get her seen.  This is a situation where I would consider payment plans or a use of credit to cover the cost of the vet visit.  There are also low cost places in many areas that can help with getting her spayed because that can contribute to these issues.

Hi guy just wanted to check back in with everyone. Our kitty has stopped peeing in our room since we got rid of our old mattress. We bought it from a friend with an unaltered male (did not know he had cats until I asked) and I am presuming their cat had sprayed on the mattress and our girl was trying to cover the scent? Have had the new mattress for almost a week and so far so good!!

I have a 3 year old fixed male who only pees on the kids bed never anywhere else...does anybody know why he would do this? We thought getting new mattresses would help but he peed on them as well, I'm glad we got plastic for these ones!

Did you check for a UTI? Have your vet run a full urinalysis, checking for UTI, crystals, urine pH. Ruling out medical causes is always first priority.
