Hi All --

My kitten will be 7 months in a week and I've been growing more concerned about her being lonely during the day when I'm at work.

My guess is now she sleeps a good part of the day but who knows?  Any advice about what to watch out for?

I'd love any advice, thanks!

Excessive grooming or generally destroying the house would be signs of stress caused by loneliness. Some cats like being only cats while some do better with company. It just depends on the purrsonality of your kitty, but if you notice that your cat seems stressed by being alone, that would be a sign that she might appreciate some company.

I have the same exact worry with my 4 month old kitten! He is high energy, so I feel especially bad about leaving him behind at work. I try to play with him as much as possible before I leave for work and when I get home.

He loves the Da Bird wand toys and attachments. It really makes cats fly through the air, so it is a good way to get your kitten's extra energy out. I also try to leave out new interesting things in his environment (e.g. oddly shaped box carton with holes in it, cat tunnels, cat cubes) so he can explore them while I am gone. Also, I don't know about you, but I sleep with my kitten so he has company through the night. I think it would be a lot worse if he was alone at night and during work hours.

I am actually working faster at work and getting back home earlier now that I have a kitty anxiously waiting for me!
I hope we both can stop feeling less guilty over time. I think once they're older, it will get better!

My 4-5 month old girl would run through the room and smack the little dog in the head and keep going, trying to get her to play.
She's beating up on my goggie.
So I brought home a 2-3 month old male to play with, and he ended up being the little dog's big brother. The other cat stopped beating on her.

He and goggie would spoon together on the dog bed and the couch in his downtime. The rest of the time was hanging out with the other cat and they would do cat things together.
