Just trying to get some opinions on what to feed my 11 year old female cat , She has a great appetite , Will eat almost any canned food .

The last year she has been on Pride NV Chicken flaked (the only gum in this is the almost avoidable gaur gum ) . she was on dry food for over 9 years , in 2015 she had a sdma of 17 , 6 months on the Pride and it when down to sdma 11 , 6 more months later and it's back to 17 .

What we have tried

Wellness morsels in the pouches (I hate pouches and the can't really be sealed right after opening ) This food is way too salty . we also have a relative that takes care of her who is handicapped and they only food that he can feed her are cans that the food comes out easy and a lid can go on .

Weruva steak fritis , So far it's ok , But we can't find a lid that fits on the 3oz can , it's bigger then normal 3oz cans .

Daves restricted , This stuff is not all that great and she really does not care for it . They have a new formula but I think the protien level is dangerously low .

Organix spinach and turkey  , Stuff is full of grains and she won't go near it .

(new) Blue Buffalo K/d , a sticky pasty mess you can't get off you spoon . It's got questionable stuff but it's the only k/d I would ever give her , The rest i'm not touching with the ten foot pole .

I'm looking at this food and wondering what anyone thinks Rayne RSS . it's from Australia and it is suppose to be good for early stage renal . . I had 2 free samples  sent to me , She loves it but it's pork and it loks just liek mush , It smells good and most of all she eats it ,Very expensive . Any opinions ? https://static1.squarespace.com/sta...9309d0/1484254182499/USA_FE_AdultRSS_Sept.pdf

I only would get the wet food which are in trays , Have no idea how to cover them other then ad more foil on top .

Thanks for listening :)

What I like about Hills K/D food is that their dry food is the only K/D food (that my vet provides prescriptions to) that has meat listed as the first ingredient (it's second in the wet food, after water). I didn't even know that blue buffalo made K/D food. Overall, I think that Hills is slightly higher quality than blue buffalo, but the difference is not as major as it would be between one of these two major pet food companies and a manufacturer specializing in grain-free cat food without any meat by-products.

The Rayne RRS appears to be a urinary diet instead of a kidney diet (a C/D instead of a K/D) Which diet does your vet want your cat to be on?

Our Doctor said that the Rayne RRS is good for stage 1 kidney (That's what the company says in there web-sight as well), But if anything deteriorates to get her on a K/D formula .

This stuff is very expensive and were trying other brands before resorting to this food .

About the Hill's , One thing dry food is not recommended at all . After getting her off of dry food is when she got so much better blood lab results , We think that age is just starting to catch up and like to keep her at this stage 1 level as long as possible .

As for there cans ,

There are some very questionable things in the Hills , For one big one synthetic vitamin k also knows as (Menadione Sodium Bisulfite) This is a very low quality way to add K to cat food .  Egg whites are good but Egg Product (this could be shells), Brewers Rice, Sugar, Modified Rice Starch, Powdered Cellulose( which is minuscule pieces of wood pulp)  At least Hills K/d is no where near as bad as Royal Canyon . I can go on and on  about all the ingredients but I'm not trying to turn anyone off from what works for them , I need help to figure out what works for my cat .

The Blue Is a Kidney and Mobility new formula , Overall it's not bad .   Were also told on stage 1 cats should not get dangerously low protien levels foods , It's more important to find low phosphorous and low sodium foods and add water to all .

She's getting stomach upset from changing her food so much , I just want to find something that will work . :)

My vet only offered prescription for hills and royal canin, so after doing the research I settled for hills :)
