Hi,I'm an owner to 5 playful cats. Everything is so wonderful about them until I moved to a new neighbourhood. My new neighbour, they aren't animal-friendly.

I'm used to have my cats having their playtime outside their cage for at least 1 hour while I clean up their cage and wash their food trays and all. Also, I was in progress of training them to roam freely, no more living in the cage because I like it that way. I like seeing them being all free and happy. I managed to train the mom when I was in my old neighbourhood.

Now I can't do it anymore as I caught my new neighbour, she kicked 2 of my cats. They were resting around her backyard. My neighbour even warn me to keep them away from her house including their smell because they're simply eye hurting to her and her family.

Ever since then, I had no choice but to keep them inside the cage 24/7. Which that totally unhealthy for them, to me. I can't bring them living inside the house because I have 4 family members who suffer bad asthma and allergic.

For this situation, I'm forced to have them out from my house. My neighbour, they are very intolerant over everything.

This really bothers me --> Does releasing my cats to the back of the shops will make me a bad and irresponsible owner? Or should I open up an adoption for them? Apparently, I tried and many times people wanted them separately. Or is there any solution to keep them away from going to my neighbour's house?

I want nothing but the best for my cats. They're wonderful, all 5 of them are very close to each other. This issue has been ongoing for 2 months and I can't seem to find the right decision for this matter.

When you say cage, do you mean a small cage? Is it an option to build a large catio outside? A catio is similar to a fenced in patio area that the cats can be in. Typically large enough to have a human walk into it too. That would be a solution that would give them more room than a smaller cage while keeping them in a confined area. Also, there are fence toppers that can be put on a fence to prevent climbing out so they can be allowed in your yard and are unable to go into the neighbors yard.

I don't like the idea of releasing to the back of shops. I think I am misreading it but if you are asking about just letting them go behind some store then yes that is bad. They don't have an established territory and would likely be killed quickly by predators they are unused to or injured by the resident cats of that area. If you are saying let them outside in a specific direction with you bringing them back in at night then that is also not an option because you can't control where they will go unless you watch non stop. Adoption would be an option if you could find someone willing to take them in pairs and you divided them up by their attachments. I wouldn't do a single adoption unless there is one who isn't as bonded with the others. You can also reach out to local shelters or rescues to find home. In my area there is a fee of $125 for the first cat and $75 for additional cats for an owner relinquishment situation.

I would look into animal abuse laws and property laws in your area. If you have a photo or video of her kicking the cats that could be a punishable offense. It does depend on laws in your area though. My area any harm to any cat on any property is illegal unless the cat is posing a direct threat to life (example would be rabid and attacking or killing someones chickens). A cat can be humanly trapped and turned over to animal control but not kicked or harmed to remove from a private property.

I would consider adopting them out, even if it means separating them, most people are not going to be willing to take on 5 cats all at once, 2 or 3 maybe if you are willing to split them into pairs. Having cats living in a cage all the time isn't fair to them, if they have to live in a cage to be inside then they can't even interact with the family. You don't mention how big the cage is though, if it's room size and you can go in there and play with them and be with them then it might not be so bad. It doesn't sound like letting them free roam is a safe thing for them, the neighbor will likely kill them. The only option I can think of that would allow them to have somewhat free roam without bothering the neighbor would be to create a fenced in area for them to be in outside, they sell snap together cat enclosures online, as well as you can find blue prints for DIY online too, they can be as big as you want/can afford. Or fence in your yard with an angle over hang so they can't climb out.

I'm not sure what you mean by releasing to the back of shops. If you mean just dumping them to fend for themselves somewhere, then yes that would make you a bad owner. If you mean having a shop owner(s) adopt the cats, and have them as shop cats, where they will be fed and cared for, then no that is not too bad.
