Hi all, long time cat owner, first time poster.

Back in Sept, my 6mo kitten apparently went into heat without my noticing which resulted in a late November litter of 6 healthy kittens by her brother (ironically he was neutered what must've been right after her heat). Mom is a DLH blue buff classic tabby. Dad is a DSH brown mackeral tabby. 2 kittens were brown mackeral tabbys, 2 were blue buff classics, 1 a grey/blue mackeral tabby and then this guy. He is solid grey but in the right light there appears to be ghost stripes. He also is...shimmery for lack of a better word. It's almost like he's covered in a brushed silver. Is he just a grey cat? Is there a breed somewhere in his moggy background that could contribute to his neat coloring? Since his parents are littermates, would I be wrong in speculating that he just got some either recessive or dominant combo? Also, he (& 3 other kittens) seem to have rexing on the tops of their heads or down around their necks. Not sure if that helps shed any light. Thanks!!

Interesting.  What you got is a not too bad look alike of a russian blue.  His eyes not really green, and russian blue are more slender and elegant in the body.  Still, it would be easy to take him for a pet quality RB of the european type.

As you say, him being inbred, does concentrates some genes doubled up.  And he won the highest lottery win.

Or if we want, here we see why we cant count every random domestic being a look alike to a rb, for a rb...   Most of them arent and doesnt even have any near ancestry...

But a breeder anxious to construct a RB type cat, would use your cats as the startpoint, as he now knows the genes are there.  For example, this shimmery silver blue fur.  And the slanted eyes.

Thanks! I did come across RB when trying to ID where his shimmer/iridescent fur could've come from. Here's a collage of his parents and another of his handsome face :-)

Nice parents.  Mommy sweet, and daddy even grandious.  What looks!   If he likes to deal with people and be looked at and handled, he could make a carrieer in Cat Shows, at the Household pet class.

What a beautiful cat - and that coat ... gorgeous. As you say he could have a bit of russian in him re the coat. Not much else is russian though - nose colour, fluffy tail I can't see if the paws are mauve or if in profile he has the flatter elongated profile that russians have. But he is a very handsome guy.
