Found out yesterday my 11 month old cat is pregnant. She is due in 3 weeks or less the vet said. She had ran away for 3 days and this is her suprise for me i guess. Looking for some advice on what to have prepared for when labour starts, what can i do to suppprt her during these last few weeks, just anything to help me i guess as im totally panicking and dont want to risk anything happening to my cat due to me not being confident.

Hi,hope its OK to post. Found out on Monday my cat was due in roughly 3 weeks. She ran away for 3 days in February. She ran out on the 7th of February and returned the 10th. The vet scanned her Monday and agreed for the under 3 week due date. My concerns are she has been spending some time in the nesting area I made, not much time but still (maybe just getting used to it), she's also more clingy with me, eating much less than normal, and my neighbor who's had pregnant cats says my cat looks huge and ready to go anytime. I guess I'm just wondering if she did would that be safe? Would I class this as dangerous and phone the vet straight away. Or is this normal for a few weeks before due date.

First litter for me and her so probably just over thinking and panicking

I think you shall wait it out...  Do prepare like it could be anytime now,  but plan on the coming 3 weeks.  They CAN look very big 3 weeks before.

If you werent to your vet, I would suggested she perhaps got preg already earlier, without you noticing.  It does happens.  But as the vet agreed to wait in 3 weeks, that is almost surely the case.

Not all pregnant cats spend a lot of time in their nest before they are close to delivery.

The clingy behavior and being more affectionate is also a normal pregnancy behavior.

What are you feeding her?  I believe senior posters here recommend feeding wet kitten food twice daily plus dry kitten food.

Kitten food provides her with the nutrients she needs to help her kittens develop properly.

After the kittens are born, the kitten food will  help her milk production for the kittens.

When she is nursing, you will probably want to feed more wet kitten food, and just leave dry food out for her to graze.

There are several articles about preparing for the kittens here on The Cat Site

Yeah she's been on kitten food since I found out Monday. Iv been feeding her as much as she wants which was what the vet advised. Some days she's eating loads some days she isn't eating at all. Guess that's also to be expected. Her first day out was 7th of February so if born now they would definitely be early. Suppose will just have to wait and see when they arrive.

Is this normal to be so big with at least 2 weeks to go? (First litter iv experienced so maybe I just wasn't expecting her to get to big) just worried about her as she seems to be uncomfortable and she still obviously has 2 weeks left. She couldn't have fell pregnant before the 7th of February so her rough due date is definitely correct. Poor wee thing just seems not herself and just wanting to follow me everywhere

Mom can be spayed 8 weeks after delivery. Just make sure she doesn't get out at all until then. She can get pregnant soon after delivery.

My cat is now safe to delivery anytime after 4 days, so anxious! Terrified about the idea of losing my cat if anything was to go wrong, have hung an emergency supply kit in the area iv made for her and was wondering if I'm missing anything. Again this is just in case items that hopefully won't be needed.
Dental floss
Blunt scissors
Extra Towels & blankets
Medicine syringe and kitten milk
Emergency vet number
Emergency vet money

Anything I'm missing? We had a scare the other day which turned out to just be a sore tummy and she got some special food and a needle and its totally made me panic lol

You are all set! You might want clear pedialyte on hand too. Try not to worry too much. Most cats manage nicely. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Pedialyte is an electrolyte solution that can be found on the baby aisle in most grocery stores in the U.S.
