I have a stray/feral that comes up to eat once a day.  Last week I noticed he was holding up his right leg and couldn't put any pressure on it.  I read through the advice and most people said to wait, that there wasn't much a vet could do.  That cats heal pretty quickly.  Today is the first time I have seen him since then and he doesn't seem to be any better.  Looks to me like a complete break but I'm not a doctor.... Is it time to take him to the vet?  I don't have very much money but I don't want this cat to be pain either.

If you take him to a vet, he is going to need to be neutered. That's the #1 priority for him. Usually we advocate that if a person feeds a cat he must have him fixed.

Hi CLW01, please have him checked by a vet. Though sometimes they say that they'll heal pretty quickly but sometimes if it's an injury which is infected, eventually it'll succumb to bacteria and will rot and till the cat cannot manage and cannot walk and will be suffering in pain and will finally die.

If you can, please bring him to a vet ;)

Primula, I had planned to have him neutered at the same time.  In fact, after reading through other posts a couple of days ago, it was suggested that it would be easier to look at the leg if he was under anesthesia for being neutered.  But first, I have to catch the little guy.  And I only see him for a brief moment around 4:00 pm.  I am going to have to bait him and that isn't easy with 6 other cats trying to eat at the same time.

The vet closes at 5:30 (or at least the one I can afford).  I have no place to put him until the next day except to leave him in the cage and that to me  seems cruel.  I totally understand about getting cats neutered but, I also need money to do that.  I've had 4 neutered and spayed so far. I've taken two to the vet after injuries.  I live on a very low income and even at $20.00 per cat for my local spay and neuter clinic, I can only do a one or two a month.   We do have a TNR program in my city and I do belong.  But thank you for the input!  :)

Tabby Tom...  I decided last night he needs to go.  It doesn't look like it is getting any better.  Now I have to catch him!

Thanks for the feedback guys!
