Lovely kitty. Scottish Folds can be healthy cats if bred responsibly. Welcome to TCS and I look forward to seeing more pictures of Lolly!

From what I read they are actually not considered as a breed. The folded ears came about from a gene mutation that some then breed for and enhanced but a single mutant gene is not enough to make it a separate breed. Apparently the mutation can come with some not so good problems also so there has been a lot of resistance to declaring it a breed. But they are an interesting looking cat.

I think the feral tom cat that I have been feeding for two years is a Scottish Fold. But he has only just this month let me get close enough to touch him on the back. Forget about looking at his ears. There is something very different about them but what I don't know. Feral cats here often get frostbit ears which causes them to loose the tips. It could also be injuries from fighting or even a birth defect. When I first saw him, (and that was from about 30 feet away, the closest he would allow) I thought he was missing an ear. He is older, bedraggled, battle scared and very wary and timid. Apparently he is feeling his age now because he has elected to stay around and get food rather than cruise the neighborhood looking for girls. He now comes running for food the same as the others when I call and what is really funny is that he sometimes finds himself running up to me and almost running through my legs with the other cats. Then he startles himself and backs away, but then sees that nothing bad happened so goes ahead joins in dinner. He sometimes also comes to the door and actually calls for food. Baby steps. I have some pictures of him and his ears if anyone is interested.

I wonder what goes on in that head. "What, wait a minute I am supposed to be afraid of you, I always have been. But those guys aren't, why not. And why do they get food from you if your a bad thing? I am so confused. I want to be afraid but then I go hungry and I am more afraid of that. Come on, just put the food down and leave and I can sneak in. Please. So how close can I get and not be in danger for my life? I keep getting closer and I don't die, how come? Have I been lied to all my life? Maybe just a little closer."
