I took in a stray cat a few weeks ago and believe she may be pregnant. She has gotten significantly larger and acted like she was in heat when she showed up. I guess I am just wondering what i can do for her to help prepare for this as we have two larger dogs. They all get along fine but one is still a puppy and i want to make sure the kittens will be safe, also i have never been through the birthing process. As i said before she just showed up and as we just bought a car we are limited on the money for a vet for her and im at a loss as to what to do except prepare as best i can. Any advice would be helpful.

You'll need to keep mom and kittens separate from the dogs once the kittens arrive. It's not safe for them to be around dogs, particularly an enthusiastic puppy. You may see mama kitty begin to exhibit aggression towards the dogs as she gets closer to giving birth. This is a natural instinct for cats against perceived predators.

So make mom a nest in a private place such as your bedroom closet or a spare room. Feed her dry kitten chow and several wet food meals a day.

You'll want to search for a low-cost clinic to have mom spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old.
