My 6 years Calico cat has bad dermitis on her back side just above her tail. She keeps licking it and licking it and has taken off a lot of hair. The irritation was from a flea bite allergy a few months ago but she has no fleas now. She has had all her shots and is fixed. Can anyone help with a remedy ( natural?) for her please? Thank you.

Aww, poor kitty.  I had a dog once with a similar problem and she was so miserable.  It's heartbreaking watching them trying to relieve the itching, knowing that they're actually making it worse.

The first thing you need to do is to take her back to the vet and let him examine her and take a scraping to culture.  It's not unusual for cats to develop secondary bacterial infections after a bad reaction to fleas because they keep bothering the area and preventing it from healing.  You can ask him or her at that point about natural remedies.  Some of the ones I've heard about include topical applications of olive oil, coconut oil and colloidal silver but your vet may feel that a cortisone cream or oral prednisolone would be more effective.  S(he) may also recommend an antihistamine like Benedryl.  I would consider it carefully if the vet does recommend these treatments because you do want to use whatever works the best and these would be for the short term only.

Unfortunately for poor kitty, she will need to wear a cone to stop her from licking off any salve and to prevent her from continuing to irritate the area. The area above her tail needs to have a chance to heal.   This article discusses some of the options:   [article="33690"]The Cat Cone A Complete Owners Guide[/article]

Good luck!  I hope your kitty is soon feeling better.
