Hey everyone - I came across this website by mistake but so glad I did. We are getting our first Kitten next week but I am soo nervous as I am scared of cats! My partner has been desperate for one since he was a wee boy so I gave in. We are getting a British Short Hair cat, blue eyes. As my partner is obsessed with Game of Thrones, and the cat is pure white....her name will be Khaleesi!

Any tips anyone has would be much appreciated.

Look forward to reading your stories.

Heres Khaleesi:

She's beautiful! Congratulations. Raising a cat is such a rewarding experience. I know you'll enjoy it even though you mentioned that you are scared of cats and feel nervous. They really are marvelous creatures.

Thank you.

She hasn't been sprayed but we are thinking we will do this. Khaleesi will be an indoor cat. The breed she is, they recommend indoors as they aren't very strong and gullible and slighly lazy! We have lots toys, stratching posts etc ready for her to use.

You have to spay her. If she accidentally got out, she can get pregnant at 4 months. In any event, she will go into heat every month, which you don't want because she will be very hormonal.

What a beautiful kitten is coming your way!  I hope you get over your fear of cats quickly and soon realize what sweethearts they can be.  Khaleesi has an especially sweet and expressive face and I hope you two will quickly become best friends.

To prepare for her arrival, here are some articles that should be very helpful.

The following article for first-time cat owners will provide you with a lot of useful information, including links to more articles about cat ownership.   [article="33669"]First Time Cat Owners Guide[/article]

This next one will provide more detail on the supplies you need to have ready.  [article="29657"]Bringing Home A New Cat The Complete Guide[/article]

You'll need to find a good vet, so check out this article:   [article="22404"]How To Choose The Best Veterinarian For My Cat[/article]

These articles will help you choose the right food [article="29707"]How To Choose The Right Food For Your Cat[/article]   and the right cat litter for your cat   [article="31189"]How To Choose The Right Cat Litter[/article]     Try to make any changes gradually, starting off with the food and litter that Khalieesi is used to from her previous home.  This will help her feel less frightened as well as limit any digestive upset that can happen when food changes are made too rapidly.

I'm very glad you found us and hope you will feel comfortable asking any question you might have about kitten behavior and needs in general and those of Khaleesi in particular.  People on this site have a lot of experience with cats and are generous in sharing their expertise.  There is no stupid question, btw!

One last point:  we love pictures so when you bring Khaleesi home, please share some photos with us!

You made the right mistake by coming here. You'll find many important articles and discussions regarding the A to Z of cats.

Feel free to ask questions and we'll be glad to help answer them.

It is good sign that you are the one who's afraid of cats but the one that sign up to join this forum. This shows that your fear of cats will be gone in a jiffy.

Do post more of Khaleesi photos please ;)
