Hello! I've been lurking for several days, reading lots of great advice and information, so I finally decided to join.

I currently have two cats, Dollie and Audrey, but I've had four cats total so far in my life.

I've had Dollie (the tabby) since she was about a year old. I adopted her from the local animal control shelter, and discovered when I was filling out her adoption paperwork that she had been returned by another adopter after only a week! I still don't know why, but she is the best cat I've ever had. Very affectionate, friendly, and just plain sweet. She is like a dog-cat to me :-) Dollie will be 9 in August. I simply adore her. Dollie was the name that the shelter gave her, and it suits her, so I kept it.

I had also adopted a male cat, Max, from the same shelter, and at the same time, that I adopted Dollie. I named him Max because I just liked the name. Max disappeared under the care of a pet sitter while I was away on vacation one year (accidentally got out a sliding door) and I never saw him again. He used to come and go, was microchipped, and was very loving with me, so I think something bad happened to him. I called the shelters and police and looked everywhere, but he was gone. He was only 2 years old. I still miss him to this day, seven years later.

My other cat, Audrey, is a Turkish Van, totally deaf, and entirely declawed by a not-so-great former owner. Her original owner sold Audrey when she was a kitten, but returned to the woman's house two years later to take Audrey back, after hearing about Audrey's miserable situation there. The original owner tried to keep Audrey, but her other two cats would not get along with Audrey and constantly picked on her. Then there was a very brief stint where Audrey was given to a second person by the original owner, in an effort to find her a new home, but it wasn't a good fit either, and again Audrey came home to her original owner. I was the third person in line to take on Audrey, and as of today, it's been a week. It's a sort of trial adoption to see how Audrey does (for obvious reasons), but so far, so good. She is quickly settling in and loves to hang out with Dollie. However, Audrey is still very wary of us all, so she will require lots of love and patience. I named her Audrey, which means noble and strong.

And I had a cat named Ginger (named after the children's book) who was very sweet and loving but extremely shy. She was a former stray that found her way into my parents' home, and officially became our first family cat. She died of kidney failure when she was only 8. I miss her terribly too.

I also have three cat-friendly dogs and three young children, one who is special needs. Life can get crazy around here but I love it. (And strangely enough, Audrey thrives on all the activity and animals/people, and does not like to be alone. I'm really hoping we will be her forever home!)

I'm also considering fostering-to-adopt a cat (tortie) that has been bounced around much like Audrey has been, and is depressed from all the upheaval in her three short years on earth. If she joins our clan, I will update with the news. Last I heard she was getting spayed, then was likely being placed directly with us, because her current foster isn't following through on treatment and standard care. But I'm still awaiting news on that. If she joins us, her new name will be Esme, which means loved.

Anyhow, hello again, and thanks for having us!

Welcome to the site. You have a couple of beauties there! I just joined the site a week or so ago and love it so far. Everyone has been great! I love solid white cats. I had one once that was Def and had odd eyes. I never found him being def as a problem but definitely should be kept inside. She should adjust well since she won't be startled by noise. Make a lot of eye contact with her and use hand gestures . Talk to her like you would any cat but let her see your face. She'll learn your facial expressions. I would look at mine and say no and shake my finger at him and you could tell by the look on his face he knew what it meant...lol...Mine also absolutely loved riding in a car. I took him every where. I could open the car door and point at the door and he would run and jump in. Usually liked to be in the back window. He also loved flashing light, lazar pointers and chasing shadows on the wall. I play drums and he would lay between my drums and sleep or sit there and watch me play. He went to band practice with me and just hung out like it was no big deal. He was a hoot and so funny! Good luck with her. I'm sure she'll be fine. Keep us updated.

Thanks! Funny thing is that Audrey also likes riding in the car! I haven't taken her yet (I'm letting her get used to things here inside first, and to trust me more), but her original owner used to drive with her all the time. I can't wait to take her. I'm also going to harness/leash train her, since the original owner says she likes exploring outside but must be supervised 100% of the time. The big thing to overcome with her is not so much her deafness (although we are adapting to each other), but her previous neglect, and the harassment by most of the cats she's ever known. It'll just take lots of time, patience, and love.

Your cat must have really liked the vibrations of the drums!

Hello Kitty Katson, welcome to TCS :wavey:

Thank you for adopting Dollie and glad that it worked out between both of you. And I'm so sorry to hear about Max. Hopefully he ends up in a loving home.

This is a great site to be in. Lots of friendly and helpful cats around. Feel free to ask questions or share your experiences with us as a kitty mom. I presume you are a mom :lol3:

Please post more photos of your kitties for us to see ;)
