So I let a stray cat into my home for the night the other night because it was cold and she was crying at the door to be let in. I ended up with 4 babies in my closet the next morning(guess she's staying for a while). I posted the story on a cats Facebook group, turns out their a Manx breed( or at least a manx mix)and already have people interested in the kittens some even from out of state. It totally thrills me that they have people interested in giving them homes however I just received a message from a woman who lives in the area who wants all 3( one didn't make it),this sends up red flags. That not common is it? She knows I'm going to ask for a small rehomming fee, but I'm now concerned about her or anyone interested being a possible flipper. So I'm curious what advice anyone can give me when looking at possible families for the kittens? How much would you ask for a rehomming fee. I'm not looking to sell them, and planning to donate the money but I don't want it so low that they fall into the hands of someone looking to make a quick buck.

Hello again! How is your other mama doing?

Is there a rescue in your area that you could work with to rehome the family? They probably have established processes for vetting. They could also make sure that the kittens are spayed and neutered first.

Thank you for letting that poor mama cat in. She knew she needed a warm, safe place to have her kittens.

I think working witha local rescue is an excellent idea. As Talking Peanut said, they have a system in place for checking potential adopters, and will spay/neuter everyone, and probably give shots.

If you choose to do it yourself, here's a helpful link:

http://www.thecatsite.com/a/kittens-to-good-homes-how-to-find-a-good-forever-home-for-your-kittens

You want to make sure you have the adopter's phone, address, vet name/number, place of employment, along with a promise to return the kitten with no questions asked if it doesn't work out. You need to know they can afford to care for the kitten.

Your fee depends on whether the kittens have had shots and de-sexing. If they have, you give a copy of the paperwork to the adopter, and base your fee on that.

Since there is no guarantee that an adopter will spay/neuter, it's best to have the kittens done yourself. Kittens should not be re-homed prior to 12 weeks when they have a mom.

I suggest that you conduct no further business with the woman who wants all 3 kttens. She either wants to turn around and sell the kittens to goodness knows who for a profit, or worse, she plans to breed them and sell THEIR kittens. She wants cheap kittens who have manx in them. Tell her the kittens are already spoken for. Be careful when dealing with complete strangers!

Also, the kittens were just born. You've got 3 months to check people out and decide who gets them. Don't make promises too quickly!

We would love to see pictures when you get a chance. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thanks for the advice, I'm not going to give any of the kittens to that woman, I had a bad feeling about her even before she stated she wanted them all. This is new mama and babies, she's doing well and she is very friendly and loving. My other mama katniess is doing well but a bit pissed I brought another cat in the house and my dog is scared to death of the new guest cat, she won't even come near my room because mama will chase her out, she's quite a viscous mama cat when it comes to other animals.

Yes, mom needs complete privacy for now. That's normal.

Is katniss spayed yet? That could also be contributing.

Katniss is spayed, I think its just the new mama is a little on edge and that's affecting both the dog and cat.( more so the dog) I think they all just need to figure it out. Mama does get as much privacy as she wants and none of the animals dare go near "her closet" but I can't lock her in there and she does enjoy going to visit all human members of the household, so much so that if I didn't know any better I'd swear she's been living here more than a few days.

It's okay. Just keep them all separated for now and all should be well. [emoji]128571[/emoji]
