Hi can anyone help with this stray cat rash.I have wormed and flea treated her but difficult to catch to bring to the vet, she is fairly wild and only barely tolerates a head rub after 5 months. Rash was smaller but now has hair loss also and under weight although I am feeding her..any help appreciated...

The most common causes of bald spots are:
  • Ringworm - I would expect to see other spots on her or it to have spread to the humans by this point.
  • Stress - Which is understandable because of the life change but if it was before you got her unlikely.
  • Allergies - What are you feeding her? It could be a food allergy that makes her itch. Grains and chicken are the usual suspects when it comes to food allergies. It could also be an allergy to something in the home like a scent or plant and she is overlicking because it itches.
  • External parasites - Fleas are the first thought with bald spots. Again I would expect it to be more spread across her body but it may just be that is the stress spot. If you haven't already a flea treatment would be the easiest and quickest way to test this one. It may take up tot two months to know if it works because fleas can affect cats for a few weeks after a bite if they have an allergy.
  • Problems with the thyroid, diabetes, cancer or other conditions. Basically with these the cat feels wrong and over-grooms as a comforting behavior. The location could indicate that something inside doesn't feel right in that area. Combining the skinny plus fur loss in that area would make me think something digestive related doesn't feel right. But that could tie back to food allergies.
I know how hard it is to get a cat who doesn't like to be touched to the vet, but she likely does need to see a vet to figure out the underlying cause. If it is not inflamed or bleeding you can probably try the flea medicine and switching to a different food (like a rabbit or other novel protein with no grain, if you aren't already). It may just be a simple problem. However, that comment about her being skinny does make me worry that it is something more complicated. If you are friendly with your vet do you think you could give her a mild sedative before the vet to make getting her there easier and less stressful OR check for a vet who is mobile so they come to you instead.

I managed to get her into a cat carrier and to the vet, she is getting spayed 2moro & a parasite treatment, steroid injection ect.. vet seems to think it was an allergy to a flea bite? So hopefully she'll b a healthy cat in no time.... [emoji]128516[/emoji]

Thank you, my mom named her Queenie, she is a lovely cat although that was a good picture of her. She is very under weight in real life and her side is very sore and raw looking but in a week or two I'm hoping she'll b like a new cat .. the above pic is the only one I have .. it's not the best I'm afraid ..
