Ulcer? Or just a mouth injury?

I noticed yesterday that Jack had a slightly swollen top lip. I presumed he'd just bitten it (or something equally silly) during one of his madness moments but today it's slightly more swollen and when I had a look at the inside of his top lip there is a centimetre wide white mark. It looks a lot like an human mouth ulcer but it's not raised.

He's not completely off his food but isn't eating quite as much, I don't think. He's also being slightly more clingy and sleepy.

On researchign cat ulcers, nothing strikes me as being a trigger. He doesn't use plastic bowls, his food hasn't changed etc.

Usually I'd just take a pet to the vets but he is completely unexaminable by the vet unless he's sedated. The vet can only grab him with blankets for his boosters and thats about it.

Could really use some advice on what to do now.

Thanks!

Ella

Edit: On further inspection is it's more "raggedy" inside the lip. Almost like it's been chewed? And the swelling is a mixture of red and white.

@Ellacopter sorry there's been no reply.  How's it going?

I would have suggested taking a photo and sending it to the vet to see whether they thought he needed to go in.

Thanks for the reply!

His mouth seemed to heal after 48 hours.

Unfortunately this morning the other side of his top lip is swollen and tender to touch. Plus he's very subdued and didn't ask for his breakfast (although ate it all when we gave it to him).

Sod's law that our vet closes early today so we can't get him an appointment or call for advice so I think that'll be a job for tomorrow. Just going to watch him today and make sure he's drinking etc.

Poor little mite.

If he goes outside at all it could be a mouse bite. If he's an inside cat it could be a spider or some kind of insect, what you describe sounds a lot like when my cats tangle with a wasp or bee. As long as there is any healing at all, that is a good sign, showing it is an injury and will heal with time.

Funnily enough I did originally think it could be a bee sting as we found a dead bee on the balcony and the fact that he seemed to heal on his own fitted in with that.

Now the other side is swollen though makes me think that something else is going on. Maybe an underlying infection or virus?

He's an indoor cat so no mice (hopefully!!).
