Hi,

I have a 41/2 month old Silver Bengal Kitten, when I picked her up at the breeder at 12 weeks, she did have a cold and the breeder had her on a antibiotic, she still has a stuffy nose and snuffs around like a dog, also she has loose smelly stools, not sure if this is a bengal issue. The vet stated she should get over is cold and since she was on a antibiotic, this could have caused the diarrhea, she has been on anti - diarrhea medication for 4 days the smell is gone, but still loose stools.  I have her on Wild Wildness dry food, I have a 8 year old European Burmese and I really do not want to switch foods.  Any thoughts.... I do have a 2 year health guarantee with the breeder, but I have already fallen in love with Stitch....

The health guarantee is probably more for congenital defects then colds or parasites. The antibiotics can definitely cause diarrhea but it might be parasites as well, it's too early to make a determination one way or another. Have you done a fecal float or sent off for a PCR diarrhea panel? Also how did her diarrhea smell, like decaying plants, sweet with a hint of rot, or like rotted wet food?

Thank you for the fast reply...about the smell of the stools, I would have to say very smelly...it makes the entire home smell and I have to get it out of the litter box as fast a possible, sweet with a hint of rot... I just had the vet check for worms.

Sounds like a protezoa infection then. Giardia and tritrichomonas leave their stools smelling like a diabetic with ketoacidosis had a blow out. It's a very distinct smell. Very common in Bengals unfortunately. A full pcr diarrhea panel would help you rule them out. You can call your vet and find out when they ship out their samples, then gather a fresh watery sample without cat litter in it about an hour before to take in..
