So I've been trying to catch a group of ferals/strays for about a week now. There are 2 older cats and 2 tiny kittens. On Wednesday we had a terrible wind storm with hurricane force winds. One area was declared a state of emergency. Thousands are still without power. There are trees down everywhere. I was so worried about these kitties. Now we've been thrown into a winter storm. It's been snowing since yesterday morning. It's in the teens. Cue panic for these tiny kittens. Well this afternoon my neighbor text me to check the traps because she heard a lot of meowing (I'm deaf). Lo and behold I caught the smaller of the two older cats! She seems to be about 6 months old. Her nipples are normal, so she's not Mama Cat. I had her locked in the bathroom at first, but she slipped out, and since I don't have any other cats right now (I lost one of my own kitties in November and then the other 2 weeks ago) I let her be. She was already using the litter box and had eaten. She's been walking all over the apartment exploring for the last 2 hours, occasionally taking breaks to chill in the windows or on the couch or a chair. So far she hasn't hidden anywhere. Seems she was someone's pet at some point. She allows me to pet her, we've worked up to that over the last week when I feed them and give them treats. I'm hoping I can catch babies and Mom soon, it's way too cold outside for them.

She looks Tabby and Calico to me?

Hello ROCCITYHope, thank you for trying to rescue this group of kitties and also so sorry to hear about the lost of your other two kitties.
I hope you can manage to catch the rest before the weather turns worse.

Great to hear that the current cat that you brought in is eating and using the litter box and exploring the house. Guess she might had belong to someone before or she is super friendly as a feral. So might be a stray instead of being a feral.

She is a Tortie and she's beautiful!

Still haven't been able to catch Mom or babies. Was praying to catch them before tonight because we have a big winter storm coming in and are expecting about 16". Mom no longer brings babies when I call for feeding time, I suppose she is leery now that her friend/sister/daughter was trapped here. She does bring them by soon after I go inside, but steers clear of the traps. I may have to get creative.

Can you like leave a little food near the entrance of the trap and more inside the trap? Hopefully you can get them all otherwise it'll be difficult if they are captured separately.

Did you walk around and see where they are hiding and if the place where they are is safe from the cold?

Maizie, as I've dubbed her, has settled amazingly well. She was definitely a house cat at some point in her life. She sleeps on the kitty cot in my bedroom window (my bed is in front of it), comes running whenever she hears a can open or a bag being handled, follows me wherever I go, sits at my feet in the bathroom demanding love, allows the kids to pet her, and has even curled up in my lap once for 20 minutes for loves purring away. I've never had a rescue settle this fast! She may just be here to stay...

Yes I leave food at the front, halfway in, and at the back. Mom gets the food at the front out of the trap and takes it to the babies (she makes them wait behind her), then she gets the food from the front of the other one and eats it. She's a smart one. I think today I'm only going to put the food in the middle and back.

I have looked for them but they're not on our lot, so they must be within earshot at one of the neighboring houses.

Storm started last night, we already have a good bit of snow and still no Mama kitty or baby kitties. I've enlisted the help of my local rescue connections to get more traps. I've gotten permission from the 2 neighboring houses to put traps on their lots. Praying Mama kitty has her nest at one of those houses and this works.

Maizie continues to do amazing. She certainly knows how to cause trouble, but don't all kittens? Haha...

I do hope so too and I hope your mission will be successful.

I'm just worried what the snowstorm will do to them [emoji]128591[/emoji][emoji]127995[/emoji]

Still no sign of Mama and babies :( Very worried about them staying warm and safe in this weather.
