Just wanted to say that. We just put our sweet 7 month old kitty to sleep today. We literally tried everything. He was  diagnosed in Dec with dry FIP and with a lot of care, we made it to this week  when his dry FIP turned into wet FIP.  We put him to sleep before he became distressed. There just isn't anything effective. I know some trials are looking promising but nothing to market yet.

I am so sorry, it is a horrible disease.  I have also heard some promising things from vet schools, maybe someday.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
You fought with him as long as you could.
Take care of yourselves now

I'm so sorry and know how much you didn't want this to be FIP when you first started posting about him in January.   FIP definitely sucks, it has broken my heart many times as you may know.  You did the best you could to give him as long a life as he could have, and when he could no longer be comfortable, you gave him freedom from his failing body.  My heart goes out to you.

FIP is possibly the worst thing that can happen to a cat and a cat's owner.

I have lost a cat 3 years and 6 months ago to the same terrible disease. It appeared as a fever in mid-July and it developed as liquid in his chest two weeks later.

Since whenwe found this liquid we have fought as warriors to try to make his life as good as possible and we were even going to have hopes when all of a sudden he got worse and on an afternoon he left us.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I know how helpless you may feel now and how powerless you have felt during the battle to your kitty.

He fought dry FIP for 3 months and then last week it turned to wet. I put him to sleep before he was in distress. It was so sad. He never made it to his first birthday.

Thank you all for your kind words. I have never lost a young cat. The youngest we ever lost a cat was 12 years old. Most made it to 18 and our grand dam, Pooter was over 21. It is unfathomable to lose a 7 month old.

FIP almost always takes young cats.  Evidently once their own immune system is mature (2-3 years), the virus doesn't mutate.  I have only lost one who was over two years old and he was 8 and had been severely stressed, having been abandoned in a strange place by his original owners.  I had him for several years after that, however, so I'm not sure why his virus mutated when it did. Since the corona virus came in here with a rescue kitten from another home, I assume everyone was exposed to it and carries it.  He didn't come with it.  I think I lost 9 total by the time it was all done (it was quite a few years ago) and they were all between four months and one year except for one, and she was 18 months, and again after a huge stress, accident and hospitalization.  Again, I am so very sorry for your heartbreaking loss.  Although nothing is guaranteed, you might consider adopting a cat over two years old in the future -- they need homes too.

So sorry for your loss. :(  A small group of us are trying to do something about this terrible disease by researching the lines in Siberians. Breeders and pet owners from around the world have sent me pedigrees and autopsy reports or test results. I do believe there is a genetic basis. Eventually this info will be submitted to a leading FIP scientist, Dr. Niels Pedersen. Thank you to all Siberian owners who can help.
