Hello, I am new to this wonderful site and in need of a place for an outdoor cat who is a great huntress. Her name is Lily she is 3 yrs old, spayed, has shots, and microchipped. She has always been an outside cat, living in the back woods of El Dorado County in Northern California. All she needs shelter wise is a warm place to escape rain/snow. She has ZERO experience with city life and would not be happy as an indoor only pet. She was my mother's cat but my mom passed last August. I found a place for her but the lady who took her is not providing appropriate medical care even tho I promised to pay for the vet myself! Anyone willing to give a barn home to a serious mouser?

What medical care does she need that is not being provided?

She has an infection in her mouth that now requires surgery. It came to my notice two weeks ago and I found out it had been ongoing since December. The lady who is caring for her was my mom's neighbor and agreed to take care of her since none of us had an appropiate situation for her. My sibs and I all live in the Bay Area and have other pets (some aggressive!) that would prevent us taking her. I knew this lady couldn't afford the financial responsibility so I told her to call me if Lily needed anything. She simply did not contact me. My sis was up there finalizing the sale of my mom's house and found out what was going on and finally got Lily to the vet. I am committed to getting her healthy again before she is rehomed. This is not a chronic health issue.

An infection in her mouth? From what?

Stomatitis, calici?

Poor girl :(

Edit-no I don't guess calici would require surgery, wasn't thinking.

What all did the vet say about this?

Not that it will make me not try to help, just some info for my own curiosity.

Help relocating is scarce since CA has such an enormous overpopulation.

Despite my knowing the pres and founder of Friends of Ferals in Marin who's group does just that, every time I ask her for help in relocating kitty or kitties she is backed up quite a ways.

I have lots of connects to people who rescue, etc and will see what I might be able to do to help but consider it to be a small chance, and will also take transporting her to her next place.

Vet hasn't yet been able to confirm cuz she's been so painful. She is on antibiotics to stabilize the infection as much as possible before surgery. He believes it is from a broken molar/abcess in the upper jaw.

Painful!

How friendly/shy-feral is she?

What color?

She is black w/ a stumpy-tail (naturally born) not too big, abt 10 lbs. She is initially shy of new people but once she warms up is very friendly and likes to be petted and picked up. It can take a little while tho. I stayed with my mom to care for her when she got frail and it took Lily about 3 weeks to warm up to me.

I would be able to transport her if it was within a couple hundred miles. Even if it got as far as Tahoe or Reno. Have a sis in Reno/Sparks who could do a leg in that direction as well, if need be.

Maybe your sis can ask for ideas from the WARF shelter - the animal lovers in Reno (many have relocated to NV from The City area) are so fantastic and their shelter is the best that I have seen (I have visited them in quite a few states).  There are lots of horse properties so hopefully Lily will find a great placement; maybe your sis can join a Facebook group and make some local connections . I cannot help out except for sending my prayers - they do get answered - I recently drove 470 miles, round trip, to get a companion cat for my disabled daughter; the kitty's former owner has been facing big health challenges so the cat is expert at being the attentive, comforting companion that my daughter needs (my former-feral kittens adore my daughter but don't have the patience to lie on the bed in a dark room and cuddle with my daughter during migraines and other painful conditions).

Thanks for the suggestion, and for the prayers. My sis also has connections with many "horse people" so she's also putting out feelers in that direction.
