I have a geriatric foster kitty named Aiyana who has stomatitis. She had most of her teeth extracted in December, but unfortunately the stomatitis continues. She has been on three rounds of antibiotics with no improvement and most recently got a shot of prednisolone. While it helped her appetite, I'm not sure if the inflammation has gone down. I've been adding tiny amounts of l-lysine, probiotics, curcumin and PlaqueOff to her food, as well as a dissolved tablet of T-Relief (Traumeel). Having done some more searching, I'd like to give the lactoferrin a try, instead of the curcumin and l-lysine. I've PM'd LDG to see if she can provide an update on Chumley, even though he doesn't have stomatitis he was experiencing gingivitis and dental issues.

I have had good results with several cats over the years with getting injections of depo-medrol whenever they had a flare.  The last cat I had with the stomatitis was controlled with depo for many years, and she lived to be nearly 18 years old with no side effects from the depo.  What finally took her out was mammary cancer which she developed at age 17.  The relief was always great within 24 hours and lasted from 4 weeks to 8 weeks on average.  Many years ago I had two brother cats who had stomatitis.  They were very young (about one year) and we did do the oral surgery to remove all their teeth.  For one, that worked, but for the other, it didn't.  He had to go on the depo-medrol and that worked for about a year, and then even that didn't work and we put him to sleep to spare him the pain.  At the time, the tooth removal was only giving a 50% recovery statistic anyhow, so the next time I had a cat with stomatitis, I went with the depo.  Unlike dogs and humans, most cats tolerate steroids well even over a long time.

The standard thing to do at this point is a full mouth extraction, and then end of problem.  We did this with one of ours and she was immediately better.
