I recently joined a rescue group and this weekend I will be getting a pregnant stray to Foster. Here is the problem. Her last litter she ended up killing and eating them. I don't know much about her but do know she's very friendly not wild but got rescued from poor conditions. Guess they found seven dead cats on the property. I don't know how far along she is but she is "showing". I will be keeping her in her own separate bedroom away from my other animals. Can anyone please advise me what I can do to try and prevent her from eating this current litter when they are born? I'm hoping she was just very stressed the reason why she killed her first litter but any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Yes, that is exactly my guess too!  You dont tell exactly the background, but reading through the lines I understand it was some horrible hoarding situatiion, no?  Really horrible.   And thus - highly, extremely stress pressure.

So you will work along these lines, be sure she is so least stressed as you can. Calm milieu.  Relaxing, calm music.  Perhaps a Feliway adapter on (a little overkill, but you want to doubleguard everything, no?  ).  Somehting to do and watch, so she doenst get bored and stressed because of this!   You will surely become her Momma, as it may be about one months left...  A lovving momma whom she trust is a GREAT calmer!

Whom are your other residents?  Are you holding quarantine because of health- and contagion issues, or for her  calm?    What I mean, if they are all healthy, and someone of them will become her good friend, you may let this good friend be with her, if such is her wish and desire.    But if not, yes, you do separate her from all.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I really don't know any more about her than what I posted I will find out more when I pick her up this weekend. I plan on keeping her in by herself mostly to keep her from being stressed out from my two cats but also because I'm not sure if she's been vaccinated or tested for anything yet. This is the first cat that I've ever had that was pregnant then on top of it she sounds like she's not going to be a easy one. I would like to hear from someone who may have gone through this and if it's possible for her to raise a litter of kittens successfully.

I agree that she was most horribly stressed and perhaps starving when she killed her first litter. I have had first time mamas kill or abandon their babies, I think they just honestly became too stressed and didn't know what to do. They later successfully raised a litter. They may have been premature or had something wrong with them too, which could cause that to happen. Definitely gain her trust and be with her when she gives birth if at all possible. Don't handle the newborns at all until you are sure she isn't going to harm them, you don't want to add to her stress. If she does try to kill them it will happen fast so be ready to take away any survivors. This poor little girl needs to be spayed as soon as you can, she deserves a good life with a nice family to love and cherish her. I will pray that she will be a good mama this time, the chances are good because of an angel like you in her life.
