This seems like a weird question, but how much is normal for my 5-mo-old kitten to drink?

She would NOT drink for the first 6 weeks or so that we had her. (She was eating all wet food and vet said not to worry; in the beginning, she was very sick for a couple weeks and getting her to *eat* was the struggle.) I finally got her a pet fountain and eventually, slowly, I'd find her drinking once in a while, a little.

For the past couple weeks I seem to suddenly notice her drinking significantly more. I never was refilling her water fountain; now I have to add water every day or two. Vet seemed unconcerned when I said she doesn't stay at the water for an excessive amount of time, just more frequently. Also, she snacks on some (1/4 cup/day) dry food now, which she wouldn't until about two weeks ago.

Yesterday at noon she had Drontal. This am I've seen her drinking 3 times in an hour. Is this weird? She ate about a half of a 3-oz can this am, and munched a little dry food maybe 30-60 min before that. She vomited her entire 6pm meal yesterday (prob from drontal), then only ate half a jar of baby food at 10 pm, so she might be a little dehydrated.

I seriously have no idea how much is normal for a cat to drink since it was "normal" for her for so long to never drink. Is several times a day normal? Is 3 times a day normal? Thanks [emoji]128516[/emoji]

She drank half a bowl of water (typical small cat-feeding-sized bowl) between 10 pm last night and 8 am this am.

I think it depends on many factors.

How much dry food she eats, how much wet food she eats, then there are environmental factors like room temperature, humidity, then physical activity, health conditions and so on.

I used to daily weigh the water bowls of my cats for about two months and it came out that on average each of the two cats would drink 35 ml of water per day.

The would eat wet food in the morning with two teaspoon of water added in their bowl, then dry food for the rest of the day. Indoor cats only,
