I've been lurking for a while, but I just registered today. I'll introduce our girls, Abby and Miaka. Abby is 10 and has lived with me since she was a little kitten. Miaka is about 2 and has lived with my fiancé since she was a few months old.
Abby's a cuddly little girl- if you stop petting her before she's ready, she protests. When she's in a nice mood she'll wrap her paws around your wrist and pull your hand back to her; when she's grumpy she uses her teeth.
Miaka loves cuddling her daddy, and will occasionally let me pet her, but more often she'd prefer to draw blood. We're working on that.

: Be patient with Miaka, to her YOU are the intruder and are rudely taking HER DADDY from her. My best advice would be to just ignore her as far as petting goes, but take over feeding duties for her - especially if she gets wet food as a special treat. Play with her with a fishing rod type toy. Basically, try to get her to associate you with good things. She'll come around.
