Has anyone else had a cat who tested positive "pass" the disease, or test negative later in life? A friend has a cat who tested positive, twice,  six years ago but has been a single indoor cat since. This cat, Andrew, was recently retested and it came back negative! Turns out he probably passed the disease shortly after he was tested and has been healthy all these years. The vet said it was safe to introduce Andrew to my cat (FeLV negative). I'm still a little nervous but that's unnecessary, right?

It is important to know which test the vet used to get the negative result. Was it just the "snap" test I would recommend having blood tests done to confirm. I hope that Andrew stays negative but just to be safe I would ask the vet what kind of test was performed! My boy wasn't so lucky, he passed last Friday from FeLV and it is an awful disease so take every precaution to make sure he is truly negative.

Aw, I'm so sorry for your loss. And I understand it's a very serious condition, which is why I want to protect my little guy as much as I can. This retest was the SNAP test. From what the vet said, that test returns false positives but not false negatives.

No, I had one Negative than test positive, due to my own fault. I ended up with a litter all positive including the Mother and Sister. All died except for the sister who is 7 years, and only 1 kitten who is male, fixed and weighs 25 pounds. The Mother lived 7 years died last week. She had a urinary tract infection, then came down with an upper respiratory which I did not take her to the Vet until it was too late. She became Anemic and died 2 days later. I have to keep Antibiotics, in case of any sniffle.
