Cats and Luck.  It is a good thing cats have 'nine lives,' as they do seem to tempt fate and need more than one!  This makes them very lucky indeed - nine times over!   As every one of my cats has been a rescue, they have all been lucky to land with me in a good caring home, where they are indoor only, warm, well fed, and have toys and climbing trees galore.  I never had cats growing up.  I was in my 30's when my first cat came to me - Mr. Amber Cat, aka Amber.  He was living outdoors, at the apartment complex where I moved in.  When I'd come home from work the other cats would scatter, but Amber would hop up onto my neighbor's car (it was always her car!) and observe me.  So I started talking with him daily.  Then I picked up some food and treats on one of my grocery trips.  I was hooked!  After about 3 weeks of daily chats, I returned down to the car park one day with a huge sweatshirt, scooped him up and brought him in.  He lived with me for 11 years.

In the attached photo, Amber is the boy I am holding (I am standing in the back).  This photo is from 1999, and I had already added a few more found cats, at that point in time.  But Amber, he was the first!

Although black cats are considered bad luck here in the USA, in England they are lucky!

(I think I'll have a bit of fun and look up a new "lucky cat" fact for each day of this contest!)

My luckiest cat is my current pet, Aya.

From 2007-2011 I lived on the island of Okinawa, Japan. Japan has a huge feral cat problem which is just real sad for those of us who love animals. . I would only pick up a kitten if it was sick, hurt, or clearly abandoned and too young to be without mom, for there are too many "unwanted" cats and no one person can help them all.

Japan has a custom of social drinking parties with your co-workers after hours. They also have very strict drunk-driving laws, which meant I was often taking a taxi home very late at night. I lived on the other side of a very busy intersection from the entertainment district in downtown Okinawa City. The taxi drivers liked to short-cut through the narrow lanes of the old neighborhood to avoid the traffic. The last turn before rejoining the road was a blind 90 degree one at the bottom of a steep hill, so narrow that two cars passing each other could barely squeak by at 5kph.

As my taxi driver was barreling down the hill that night, I saw something wriggling in the middle of the road at the corner. It was a kitten. I screamed "koneko!" at the driver who swerved to avoid the kitten. Just as we passed, another taxi going the opposite direction also swerved to miss the bitty kitty in the road.

Feeling a bit embarassed over my concern for the cat, I lied to the driver, told him I was hungry and asked to be let out at the Kanehide Grocery store nearby. I walked back to where I'd seen the kitten; thankfully she was no longer in the road. There were no streetlights; it was very dark and the kitten had climbed halfway up one of the cinderblock walls that make these lanes so narrow. Looking around, I spotted no sign of momma cat, nor any siblings.  My apartment complex specificly did not allow pets, but not knowing what else to do, I plucked the kitten off the wall and tucked her in my jacket and proceeded to walk the two blocks home. Only when I turned on the light in my place, did I get a good look at her. She was the dirtiest, sickest looking little calico kitten I had ever seen. And she was now my responsibility....

She was covered in dirt and fleas! Knowing something of the risk involved in bathing young kittens who chill easily, I had no choice but to dunk her in a warm sink full of water up to her neck. The water turned red from all the flea bites. Her eyes looked like someone had punched her. Not really, but her upper respiratory infection was so bad both eyes were swollen and one was crusted shut.

There were no 24 hour Veterinarians in Okinawa. I had cats before but never kittens that young. I didn't know if she would make it until the next morning, or how I was going to feed her, or if I would be able to keep her in my "no pets" apartment.

But she was a fiesty little thing, clearly a survivor, and after many vet vists, steam baths and medications she thrived! I named her Aya. How lucky she was that she didn't become roadkill that night and how lucky I was to have found her. And how lucky, for 3 years the leasing company never noticed the cat living in my apartment. I got to bring Aya home to the US after my time in Japan was over in 2011.

She's been my special friend for the last 8 years.

Looby Loo & me were both lucky when we found each other. I needed a companion for Kandy & Looby had been found as a kitten in someone's backyard. After time in the shelter she came to me at 12 weeks. She was so very frightened. Almost 2 years later she is very high-strung & skittish. Cannot be picked up & she's not a lap cat ever, but we love each other to pieces. She does not like my husband. :kitty:

I was born into a loving home where my "big brofur" had already ruled for 3 years.  He was a big longhaired silver tabby boy with a bushy tail and a HUGE mane.  We were inseparable from the start, and he was unconditionally loyal and loving to me, sleeping at the foot of my bed every night and touring our back yard, which was quite large and beautiful, with me as we would look for beautiful butterflies and moths, spiders, snails, caterpillars -- any living beings fascinated us.  As my human brother did not live with us, my "brofur" was my absolute best friend and trusted confidante through happy and sad times as we grew together.  He will always be first in my heart.

I was working at Disneyland at the time. Days of the week, holidays, daytime, nighttime, none of them have any real meaning when you work almost any day or time. One day I would work from 6am to 2pm the next 5pm to midnight. I didn't have a Christmas off in five years and got the joy of being threatened (while the guy with me was punched) on Fourth of July over firework crowds. Because of that I didn't notice that is was a holiday when I decided to drop off some cat food my sisters cat didn't like.

When I got to the shelter there was a sign saying "CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAYS" on the door. This shelter had a nice set-up for after hour abandoned pets with different size doors that could be opened so the animal was in a controlled environment cage and shelter staff could collect them without coming outside.  I turned to leave a noticed a small box sitting outside the pet drop doors.  In that box were two tiny kittens, one not moving and the other crying weakly. Whoever had left them had put some food in a paper bowl and the kittens had eaten the edges of the bowl after the food was gone. No blankets or towels were with them and the box was on the cold concrete. They must have been there overnight and the little black one was surely dead between the food and the cold.

I picked up the box and my Mom touched the black one with her finger. He didn't move at all. She took him out crying at the poor little life snuffed out too soon..... but he moved ever so slightly. We rushed to the car with the two kittens. We hurried to the nearest store and bought a small pet bottle and bottle of water (they didn't have KMR). My Mom started dripping water into the little black ones mouth and then the grey tabby who was more active. Then we went to the pet store that was further away and got some KMR. I still remember sitting in the parking lot mixing powder in that little bottle and the joy of seeing the little black one start to drink on his own.

That night my Mom stayed up late with the little black one wrapped up in a towel and the grey tabby wobbling around on the floor. The next day both kittens were doing much better with full bellys. So both kittens got a bath and the water ran black and red with the fleas and flea dust that came off. It took four rinsings until the water ran clean on the little black one. This is them right after that bath as they dried in the sun.

We ended up rehoming the grey tabby but the little black one stayed. He didn't have a name for almost four months because my Mom kept claiming she would rehome him too so why name him.

Now Nightfury is a happy 4 year old who still loves to cuddle up with his Mom. He was very lucky that day that I forgot it was a holiday and that we got there when we did.

My Trina is a very lucky kitty. One of my husband's friends found her in his backyard, and took her inside to the kitty play pen he keeps. He kept her for a week and offered her to us because he already has 6 indoor Maine Coons and 4 outdoor cats he cares for.
He said we were the only people he would trust with this darling kitten.

In my experience, those little black ones will get you every time.  They sure do me.

Wonderful "tale" and pix!  So that is Nightfury the famous contest winner!

I think I'm lucky just to have my three lovable furbabies.  Their cuddles can always cheer me up or just make me feel happy in general.

When I was a kid we lived in the middle of nowhere down a little country road. One day some dumped about 14 or 15 cats on our property. I bonded with the sweetest little pregnant tortoiseshell kitty. We already had 1 outdoor cat and my parents said no more cats. I was heartbroken over that sweet tortie and cried when my dad loaded up all of the strays and drove off. He took them to a chicken farm/plant about 5-10 miles away where they could eat mice and chicken discards etc.

Then one day about a week or two later my sweet little tortie cat showed up! I was ecstatic, my parents were dumbfounded and no one could believe she found her way back. Long story short, they let me keep her and we found homes for the kittens after she gave birth. I think we were both incredibly lucky (I even named her Penny) [emoji]128518[/emoji]

I don't have a pic of her so here are my current baby Niko

**Hello everone!

New to this site... i have two cats two dogs. Today, will be about Frankie Fitzgerald , he is about 1 1/2. Frankie was diagnosed with IBS irritable bowel syndrome. The first day i met Frankie, he was crying bloody murder! I had gone to pet co for dog food and decided to to just vist the cat adoption centerthere. Well. ... I just had to get him-- regardless of just buying dog food. After a day or two I noticed he had really bad diarrhea and would fart it was everywhere!! I was constantly cleaning the carpet and the litter box!

I called petoco and they explained that he might be stressed so i waited a few days nothing changed. I called again they said it might be his diet. I ended up going through so many holistic cat foods ..nothing worked! I didnt have any money to take him to a vet! I cried because i felt so bad for him. I didnt know what yo do!

I prayed to God, please help me with this cat. I need help! He was pooping everywhere constantly hungry. I couldn't return him ...no way!! Frankie is the most loving kitty ever!! Well one day i received a check in the mail for a couch set i paid off 3 years ago!! They explained to me they didn't realize they charged me intrest for my promotional balance.!!! So i used that 250.00 check to take Frankie to the vet. My bill was 247.00 lol!!!
It was well worth it. Frankie has been on Precripsion diet Z/D original formula for a year now. He is living proof that prayers are answered. View media item 410835View media item 410836View media item 410837View media item 410838View media item 410839

- GIRLY was found when she was about 3 weeks old by my grandson Elijah. She was tucked neatly into a little Cars garage with an old sock and a human baby bottle with sour whole milk in it. THAT little toy garage was sitting on the top of the trashcan at the local playground.
She was lucky Elijah wasn't to proud to go pick that toy off of the trash. If he didn't she wouldn't be here immortal today for me to share this beautiful story about her.
When Elijah came in my house with that toy garage. I prayed that i would be able to perform miracle. This hasn't was in shock, from having had her hips crushed (I imagine that someone had stepped on her), severely dehydrated, malnourished, covered with fleas, and so filthy that I did not know her nose and pads were pink, or that her fur was snowy white with rich calico brown, tan and black.
After almost an hour working on her, subcutaneous fluids being absorbed as though she was a sponge, fleas running and jumping off her from the cinnamon oil spray, she was still in shock.
Never a quitter, I reached out to my online community of rescue people. Some one asked me if I had any honey. Well, no I didn't, but I did have Agave Nectar... they said, " put some on your little finger and wipe it onto Her tongue."
VOILA!
A minute or two later, her eyes rolled forward, she let out a little, 'meuw', she rolled over and stood up ,all shaking and wobbly like a new born foal.
This day was the 12th of September 2012, so we always celebrate her birthday on Halloween [emoji]127875[/emoji].

My little Sophie. My silly, mischievous, sassy, curious baby. We are both lucky. I didn't go to the shelter with the intention of meeting her. I went to meet Lilith. Sophie (then Midge) was in the room with her and their brother who had been adopted and was waiting to be picked up. Lilith was out in the room playing with her brother. Midge was hiding under a chair in the far corner. When the worker brought me to meet my baby Lily, she waved towards the corner and said, "you can ignore that one. She's not friendly".  That instantly made me
. How could a shelter worker dismiss an adoptable animal like that? I was determined to NOT ignore her even if it was just to give her some treats. I played with Lily and her brother and gave them treats from the bag the woman gave me. Little Midge became more and more curious and started coming towards me. I talked to her and tossed her treats. Soon she was out playing with her siblings and letting me pet her and give her treats. Not long after, she was comfortable enough that she was eating from the dish that was next to me on the floor and she let me pet her while she was eating.

I left the room and went back to the front desk. The same worker asked me how it went with Lily and if I wanted to take her home. I heard a voice say, "I'll take BOTH of them". Yep- it was me. She was stunned that anyone would want little Midge. She told me that none of the workers or volunteers had been able to bond with her so I must be special. Nope. I just talked to her and let her know that she could come to me when she was ready and she did. I could not leave her there especially with someone who would dismiss her like that to a potential adopter.

She came home with me the next day and she is my baby. We have a really special bond. She loves to sit in my lap for pets and cuddles. She will put her paw on my hand and grab my finger with her claws. She extends the claws over my finger and squeezes- very gently. Then she retracts them and does it again. It never hurts or leaves a mark. She's my feline soul mate. She's sassy, fun, smart and silly.

All my cats are so incredibly lucky because each and every one has been feral or stray. They thought they were in kitty heaven  when they found a kind lady to feed and love them, to provide them with heated shelters in the cold winter months and to put flesh on their emaciated bodies and confidence back in their walks. This 'cat lady' is lucky indeed to have the opportunity to gain their trust, and her heart to be filled with their gratitude and love.  You earn a cat's love and to have so much fills my life with happiness and contentment. My lucky herd consists of Molly, Dutch, Yammy, Burt, Casper, and Russell. And the newest addition, Mouse,  who showed up a month ago with no hair and every bone sticking out of his pitiful little body.  It would be impossible to figure out who is luckier, them or me!

My kitten is lucky that he got live trapped by us. I doubt that he would have survived outside. Now he has 3 meals a day, birds and fish to watch, a nice warm house to live in, and a kitty uncle and grandfather.

My family is so lucky
to have Callie in our lives.  She is my little baby.
(And when I say she's a baby, I really mean it.  Callie is a full-grown adult at only 7 pounds with an disproportionally tiny head, and whines like nobody's business!)

We were not looking to adopt a second feline into our family when we found Callie.  We already had Coco, who is a very anxious cat and had some extremely stressful experiences living with other cats (before she came to live with us).  But we stopped by the Petco store near my parents' house (not the store we typically frequent!), and it was love at first meow.  Callie and I made eye contact from several feet away and she called out to me.  From that moment, our fate was sealed.

We were so lucky
to have stopped into that particular store that day, and that no one had taken her home during the 2-3 weeks she'd been there (still not sure how she was there so long, given how cute she is!).  Callie has provided me with so much love and support through some really difficult times this past year.  I am truly lucky
to have her in my life.

And Coco, while wary at first, warmed up to Callie quite quickly.  I believe Coco also feels lucky
that we found Callie.  She now has a best friend (and partner in crime) to keep her company while my husband and I are at work.

Finally, an interesting fact... calico kitties are considered lucky
in Japanese culture.  According to Wikipedia, "[white] cats are seen to bring about the happiness of its owner, along with purity, and positive energy.  The luckiest of all the colors is considered to be the calico colored cat; black is meant to lure away evil spirits, and gold for monetary good fortune." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maneki-neko#Colors)
