Hello, my name is ileen (spelled without capitals so you see it's not two Ls at the beginning) & I am living with a cat for the first time ever. His name is Luciano and he is between 18-24 months and is a tuxedo cat (I think; is that what you call all black and white cats?). As you can see, I don't know much about cats, but I'm hoping to learn here as well as other online sources. I think his white fur is a bit longer than his black fur; it certainly seems to be shedding more. Although perhaps if I had all white furniture, I'd think otherwise.
Luciano came to live with me in the middle of December. Before that, he was living with my upstairs neighbor, who rescued him from a church near the school where she teaches. That area seems to be a common place for feral cats and for people to leave unwanted cats. She and some of her group tend to the cats in the area. They catch them, get them checked out at the vet, spay/neutered & try to get them adopted or, if they're truly feral, mark one of their ears and release them back to the area.
Luciano is a beautiful boy who was named after Pavarotti due to his penchant for meowing when she first brought him home. If I had named him, it may have been Misha after Baryshikov because of his long legs and acrobatics. My neighbor would have kept him, but she had three female cats already and he did not get along well with others. She felt he would be best off being a solo cat. It started as me fostering him, but I think he's here to stay.
He has some behavior issues, not sure if he rises to the level of special needs kitty, but I will go into those more in other threads. He is between 14-15 pounds and quite thin. I may need to feed him more than I am currently. He is an indoor apartment cat, but gets regular exercise both from me & my cat-loving boyfriend.
