Hello everyone,

If you may, please share what are the best supplements to help keep the immune system the strongest possible.

I have read about lactoferrin, Omega 3, Vitamin B, Llysine, etc.. and I am sure the list goes on, but what is truly the best and most effective?

I wish there was a product that contained these in one pill or tablet or dose. Is there a supplement made for FIV cats that you know of?

Oh, also what are you doing to keep your cat's teeth healthy and clean? I read seaweed supplement helps with this, but he is supposedly allergic to seaweed and I will not try it because of his allergies. Suggestions on this appreciated too.

Thanks

While trying to find research for my Gary that past this past Friday due to FeLV I found that for immune support it is recommended 3 to 5 ml of LC-vit daily or 5 ml of Nutri-Plus Gel daily and L-lysine 500 mg and I would find a vet that would give interferon treatments as well. Gary never got infections he went from healthy to having chest fluid build up and anemia but, we were trying to be pro-active incase he needed the immune support in the future. If you live close to a University they usually have the best treatment options. We utilized Auburn University. Good Luck

I am very sorry to hear about Gary. I hope you are doing better and thank you for commenting.

I will look into these recommendations. I am currently doing Fish oil and Llysine 500mg a day powder form, but I am afraid it's not enough.

Thanks and hope you have a good week!

How are you doing now?

I don't have any personal experience with this.
I'd like to suggest browsing through the cat nutrition forum to look for additional information. You could also post there to get feedback from the members with much more experience than I have

@SavethekittyOrville is my FIV+ cat. He is around 7-8 years old and was a feral in the neighborhood. I started feeding him in November 2015 and he decided he wanted to move in the house at the end of January 2016, so he's been with me a while.  I don't know how long he has had FIV, though. I saw injuries while he was outside and wouldn't let me look at them,  but when I take him for his vet visits now the vet says he is healthy. She hasn't prescribed or recommended any medications, supplements or special foods . .He is a big cat and now weighs over 13 pounds and while a bit overweight these days still has a lot of muscle and is thriving inside. .  Orville eats what I give the other two, and he eats with them from the same plates and drinks from the same water bowl.  To look at him, watch him play, or eat, you would never know there as anything wrong with him. I often forget he even has FIV.   My FIV negative male has more health issues than Orville and visits the vet often.

@foxden   Thanks for sharing my thread!

@Savethekitty   I think there was some sidetracking in my thread, but I believe the first half has the most information and tells the story of Orville joining the family and what it was like, and what I did. i was woriried about bringing in an FIV + cat.  Good luck, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me here, in a message, or on my thread. The Catsite members are extremely supportive and helpful.
