So three or four weeks ago I was giving my cat, Simbis, her tummy rub when I felt her two bottom breasts, they were swollen. At first I thought she was just getting chubbier, but as days passed the two bottom breasts grew, along with the rest of her breasts. (all the way up to the nipples by her front armpits) I took her to our regular vet and she declared it was cancer and that she needed surgery. She gave us a price of $600+ to remove half of the "tumors" (what she called them), and then told me that she would need a second surgery.  Keeping in mind that no tests were done on her except for the physical exam of feeling her lumps, so there was no way the vet would've known if it was cancer. I proceeded to tell her that and she said that surgery had to be done in order to see if it is cancer.  I decided to get a second opinion and was able to get her seen by an older more experienced vet by that weekend. Vitals were checked and they were good, he then felt her lumps and announced that they were swollen mammary glands. Simbis is about to be two years old and she had not been spayed, so the vet said it could've been a false pregnancy. He said spaying her would help so we scheduled it, and she was spayed last Friday. Swelling had gone down, and I thought she'd be fine, but on Wednesday afternoon I noticed that the lumps were back. The ones near her front armpits felt like a fatty mass, I could move them a bit and felt around. Touching them doesn't cause her any pain or discomfort, instead she always turns on her back for a belly rub. On Friday, I took her back to the vet and he told me it could be Mastitis, she was prescribed Amoxicillin, 1 cc twice a day. He told me if the swelling is still present after two weeks then he will check her for cancer. So far her top lumps near her armpits are gone, but the two bottoms breasts are still swollen. I have also been giving her Essiac Tea, and LifeGold Cancer support for cats, just incase it is cancer, even if it wasn't , both are great for her immune system. The vet said he'd be surprised if it was cancer since she is only 2 years old. I have been worried sick of her, literally crying every day, im hoping to hear that someone elses cat has experienced this and is fine. Have any of you experienced this in your female cats?

Ask if a needle biopsy is possible.

I can give you some hope.  My cat Shadow is 18 years old.  Probably 18, the original vet that estimated her age as 3 years at the time said that he could be off a few years.

She had mammary cancer when she was 10.  One tumor, biopsied after surgery.  The only treatment I was offered was surgery.  They took only the tumor.

It came back when she was 14.  Two tumors, one of which was ulcerated.  They skipped the biopsy based on health history to save me money.  That time they took the tumors and 3 of her mammary glands.

Unfortunately I can't say all is good because I'm watching two lumps right now.  But she's made it 8 years following the initial diagnosis of mammary cancer.  As much as we've dumped research dollars into breast cancer, there are a huge chunk of women that didn't make out as good as my cat.

Thank you! That brought me hope:)

I hope your sweet kitty will be find. I can't find much information on mammary cancer in cats, most websites list the same thing. Have you tried some herbs or anything for her to help keep her healthy?
