I'm heartbroken! We have lost 2 kittens and a cat. I realized yesterday one of our whitebeige mix hasn't been around but I assumed it was due to cold weather! Again, Cat didn't come and eat with his brothers! We lost urban and found him, hit by a car! Tux just disappeared and Walter now disappeared! This breaks my heart that one by one they go missing and hit by a car

I can understand how you feel because we lost 2 of ours also from the 6 we started out with. In our case it was the 2 little boy kittens who were the most outgoing so it was really hard to lose them. Sorry for your loss!

This always so sad to hear. As a newbee here, I've learned some...caretaking or bringing in ferals/strays a complicated, difficult undertaking. Their exposure to outside danger obvious, out of our control. We must practice TNR thereby keeping populations down.  Of course bring indoors wherever practical.

I probably should have read your post before I posted my long story about the cat that was attacked by three dogs, and how much it was bothering me. I was wondering how others handle having their ferals disappear or get hurt. I started out 1.5-2 years ago with 7 kittens (4-6 months old, two different litters) that I had trapped and had fixed, and 3 have gone missing. It makes me so sad. And this one that was attacked wasn't one of the original 7, but she had been hanging around for about 4 weeks. I try to take the attitude that none of them will live very long, but I get so sad when one of them goes missing or something happens. I wish they would be friendly so I could find them good homes. But they just aren't adoptable. I just try to do what I can.

That sure would make things a lot more simple! We were told by our local humane society that unless we could get them socialized they would not take them and if we take them to local animal shelter they charge 5 bucks to accept a cat and if it's a feral they kill it. There is just so many cats and dogs they do not spend resources on those that are not friendly and can be adopted out in I think a 7 day period depending on the numbers they have in the shelter. We just decided to do the best we could and help by the TNR & feed + some vet bills. Some days I feel we have failed them & some days I feel pretty good about what we have did for those we still have. They were hungry when they came here and have never been hungry since so in that respect they are better off. We have 2 cats that are lap cats now that do seem to think they have it made. Best ....
